They have yet to convince me of the benefits of buying from them. We'll see.

when you buy them they are yours forever and if it has online play you can actully play them online. i think it is a neat reason to buy them

Re: What games are you going to buy?
Umm, I'm going to restrain myself from saying to many bad things about the buying option on gametaps official forums (I want to keep my gametap account. lol). But I won't be buying any personally. I prefer to pay the $10 a month to play anything on gametap. Just wish the games they are selling would also be available on the actual gametap service.

Nah, I don't mean the benefits of purchasing vs. subscription, I mean the benefits of buying from GameTap vs. buying the game somewhere else.

Re: What games are you going to buy?
IMO some of the games are serious ripoffs. 1942 is 10 dollars. Thats worse than Nintendo's Virtual Console. Then some of the really old Worms games are 10-15 dollars when you can find them on ebay or amazon for a fraction of the price. Some games have good prices though, like FEAR, Just Cause, they're the actual prices. I wish there was some discount though.

Re: What games are you going to buy?
If the prices were a bit lower, I would seriously look at it, but I can't justify downloading a game, paying 20$, and risking losing it in a HD crash (like what happened only a few months ago.... ><)
So until the prices drop, I'm not buying. Still a full GT member, though.

No, you can download multiple times. I don't know the exact number, but i want to say its somewhere in the 4-6 download range. It's a protection against having things like hard drive crashes.

maybe because you're so addicted to one of the games that you want to be able to play it when you don't have a good broadband connection.

Re: What games are you going to buy?
I was under the impression that Gold Members would have access to all games without having to pay extra. Are these Buy titles not launched with the Gametap client? IE kind of like Direct2Drive or how Gamestop is doing their download thing now. In that regard I guess I could look at it as Gametap running their own store. Guess I feel a little betrayed/irked about it.

I thin there are a few that aren't in the catalog right now, maybe this is foreshadowing crosses fingers and hopes for resident evil

Yeah beacuse if you buy the games it would cost most than you can play hundreds of games in one month.

Re: What games are you going to buy?
Sorry to bring up an older thread (I'm new here). What exactly can I expect when I "Buy" a game from GameTap?
- Are these stand-alone games that install separately, or must they still be played in the GameTap player?
- Are these more to be newer Windows games, or older (arcade/console/computer) games?
- If a Windows game, is it exactly the same shrinkwrapped version as you'd get buying it in a store? How do other digital download online stores work (I haven't had experience)?
- If an older platform game, is it recompiled (by the game developer) to run on newer Windows, or is it the original version which runs inside a GameTap-produced emulator?
- If purchased games from GameTap or other digital download stores are the untouched shrinkwrapped version, would they retain any copy protection mechanisms that might be in place (though I don't see how that would work with game disc copy protection, since there obviously aren't any physical discs)? Does GameTap somehow add their own copy protection mechanism for purchased games?
- Are we sure that no online play or other features have been disabled from these purchased games?
- For games in both the Play and Buy catalogs, would the purchased version have faster performance (since it runs stand-alone, and requires no Internet connectivity)?

Re: What games are you going to buy?
Sadly GT Games uses Trymedia DRM. Once your activations are gone, your practically out of luck :(

Re: What games are you going to buy?
standard trymedia rules say you get 6 activations, and if you get a bad download, they credit you for that one. That's usually enough.
