 Re: gamefly
I've used them in the past, great service, but don't bother unless you're going to do the 2 games at a time plan. Turn around is usually a bit over a week if you are in a rural area.
Thanks for reminding me, I was planning on picking up either a Wii (if I can find one, still scarce in KC) or a Xbox 360 for the kids this Christmas.

 Re: gamefly
I'm a PC gamer, so there's nothing in gamefly for me.
That's what gametap is for. :)

 Re: gamefly
GameFly should only be used if you dont have broadband access. GameTap should be used if you do nomatter what.

The problem being that Gametap doesn't have console-only games.
I think Gamefly is a great rental service. They also give you rewards just for staying as a member, which is nice.

 Re: gamefly
I used to use Gamefly. It's great if you're close to one of their distribution centers on the east or west coast. I lived right outside of St. Louis and the turnaround time was about a week, so after a couple months I dropped it.

 Re: gamefly
Have to agree with the consensus; Gamefly would be a better deal if they'd add a couple more distribution centers. Living in Houston, one of the five largest cities in the US, it regularly took 8-10 days to get a new game. Meanwhile, Netflix has so many DCs that you can get most movies in 3-4 days tops.
I suspect it's a catch-22; their distribution won't improve until more people in the midwest etc. sign up, but more people won't sign up to make those DCs viable as long as half their time is spent waiting on a game.

What would happen if GameFly and GameTap merged?

That would be nuts and it wouldn't make much sense (to me anyway).

It'd be something like Netflix, probably. You could rent games and you could also download some of them.
Although, like Netflix, they might put some restriction on how many you could download. Maybe a point system. You get X points per month, Frogger is only half a point while Jericho would be 10 points.
Bit confusing, though.

 Re: gamefly
They have recently added a DC in the northeast US. Even on the west coast turnaround time is slow, but with console games running 60 bucks, gamefly is the only economical way to play all the games I want to play. :) I highly recommend the service.

 Re: gamefly
I love my gamefly have had it off and on since 2004. Its great cause I dont have enough money to buy all the games I want to play and they help me out with that. Of course, I advise you cancel account during summer draught or else it is a waste of money.

Personally, I'd consider them in different fields. It'd be like comparing Youtube to Netflix. You're going to get different stuff with each one, it's not like you can directly say one's better than the other.

 Re: What about GameFly?
I tried it out and didn't like it because of having to wait to send to/from them. By the time I get the game I've moved on to something new.

 Re: gamefly
Several games on GameTap were console-only until their appearance on it. Notably, a large portion of the Sonic games were unavailable on PC previously.
But the delivery with GameFly is rather iffy. I'd say it's really not worth it, this coming from someone who considers himself a strong console elitest (how many other people actual bothered to keep their CD-i?).

 Re: What about GameFly?
Hey all, brand new here. Was wondering about gamefly so I thought I could ask my question here.
I'm thinking of getting my kids Gamefly gift certificates for Christmas. They love to play (a Wii & Xbox360) and I thought it would be better then buying them a game or 2.
Anyone else doing this?
Thanks for the help!

 Re: What about GameFly?
That'd depend on their ages; if you're comfortable with them using the internet, then it might be a good idea. If they're younger kids and you'd rather not give them that kind of access, then probably not.

 Re: What about GameFly?
Very good point. They both teens and yes I let them on the internet at home. I've set up parent controls on our computer, and have parent controls on the computer.
I read somewhere that Gamefly has parent controls too.
