Post Deus Ex 3 Announced
Currently, a is in the works. A proof-of-concept is all they have right now, but it's one of the most important properties that Eidos has, so they'll milk it for all it's worth. No talk about platforms, but I wouldn't rule out a GT release!

Here's hoping it will be better then Invisible War, but that's a 'nother thread.

In before "It better not suck like--" damn. I'm too late! ;)

It also feels weird when a team of developers with no connection to the original property take up the sequels. To tackle something like Deus Ex 3 as your first game is sort of a trial by fire, isn't it?

It ought not be too hard. All they have to do is not regress the gameplay by 5 years as they did in IW. A real inventory, separate ammos, and reasons to use non-lethal force/stealth and suddenly it's a cool game. All it needs is some solid gameplay and I'll forgive their inevitable story-failure.

I dunno.. I've seen MANY successful cases of unrelated dev teams making game sequels that are just as good (or even better than) their predecessors..

Some examples I can think of off the top of my head:
Obsidian taking over for Bioware on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II
Ubisoft Montreal taking over for Cyan (and Presto Studios) for Myst IV: Revelation
Ritual Entertainment taking over for Raven on Star Trek: Elite Force II (AKA The Only Really Good Star Trek Video Game Series)

i wouldnt go so far to say that IW sucks. its not NEARLY as good as the first but i think it would have been almost impossible for them to match the original.

still i think cross platforming and catering more toward the console versions as well as almost cutting out all of the RPG elements that made the first so excellent. i think the story is decent if not nearly as awe inspiring as the original.

Nintendo let Retro Studios make a 3D version of Metroid and look at the results. Metroid Prime was game of the year when it came out, so anything is possible.

I had a lot more fun in Invisible War than the original, but things just felt smoother to me in IW. Number 3 is a great announcement.

As long as they re-instate the RPG elements I'll be more or less pleased.

Exactly. The lack of RPG elements was what hurt it most. It had some really fun parts to it, but it was marred by a good number of missteps.

Was hoping the trailer would show the basic direction they are taking with the game. What ending do you think they went with from IW? The Omar ending, Apostle Corp ending and Templar ending all seem a bit iffy to me, I am leaning towards the Illumanati ending as it would be easiest to continue things from.

I don't think it would be the omar ending or the world uplink. I think it would be the illuminaty, but then Jc and Paul would be dead right? I think at least one of them should be alive in 3. I wonder if you'll play as Alex again or as someone new

The Illuminati ending would give them the most to work with. To be frank, I'd love Deus Ex 3, but I think that it's getting hard to build upon, story wise. It would be refreshing if they did a spiritual sequel a la Bioshock.

Hopefully they forget IW ever exsisted and start 3 off from the end of 1.

Heck have it start off from one of the alternate endings to 1.

I tried so hard to be able to get into IW and it simply was not possible. I bought it on PC and Console even thinking maybe a control scheme would somehow improve it. IW is the very definition of what not to do with a series.

I am extremly happy that this is coming out because I didn't have much hope that the series would get another chance to be honost.

Anyone who hasn't played number 1.. download it NOW. (available on gametap) Its possible you may not get into it the first few tries (I didn't get into it til I gave it multiple shots) but it is hands down one of the greatest FPS... no greatest games ever made.
