Post The Path - A unique coming title you've never heard of
Unless I'm mistaken....has anyone else caught wind of it? I read some information about this little horror game on Gamespot and it just caught my attention.....it just sounds so unique.....it hasn't been done before. It's basically a telling of Little Red Riding Hood. There's only one rule for the game and that's to stay on the path and head straight to Grandmother's house, but you're required to break this rule in order to achieve your goal, which seems to be death at the hands of the wolf, so logically speaking, if you play correctly, you lose.

It's all about breaking the rule in order to grow as children don't grow up following the rules, they grow up by breaking them and dealing with the consequences.

I doubt younger gamers will care for it, but this gem just screams unique.

It sounds interesting conceptually, but will it actually be fun to play? I could see it translated into a P&P scenario where the GM can make a consequence for each of the players actions, but in a video game, the players actions and their consequences, the focus of the game, are limited, defeating the purpose. That's my $0.02 anyways.

tl;dr version: lol, philosophy and VGs

So wait. If I do the objective I lose. But if I go off track, I'll get eaten by a wolf? Hmm....

Logically speaking, if you disobey the game's one rule, you fail in the end, but it's more than that. Honestly, when did kids ever learn from following the rules? Read Gamespot's preview and Q&A session with one of the designer for more information.

It sounds interesting. How Red interacts with the objects in the world is entirely up to her, but since it's still early in the development cycle, let's refrain from knocking the rules and gameplay too quickly. Where would the fun be if you always won in the end? I don't follow everything you're saying, so excuse me.

Read the Q&A section with the one of the developers

This is a game about living with the consequences of your actions. The fact that the game is a work of art and atmosphere more than a game is a deliberate action by the creators.

Open your mind a bit and don't classify it by other games you've played. People immediately disliked Wind Waker when they first heard of it after all.....
tl;dr version: Don't knock it till you get a chance to try it.

Basically what I'm saying is that the game is about the consequences of your actions. A computer game would be limited in what actions you could take, therefore setting up a set of rules you must follow. It would be much better as a scenario in a pen & Paper game where a human could decide consequences for any action. It's limited by the medium they're attempting to make it in.

How would that fit into a tale of red riding hood?

Besides, quit trying to think of it solely as any type of game. It's more about art and atmosphere. Their previous build did allow the player more control over what happend, but it didn't work with how they wanted it.

Red is the one who decides on the actions anyway....Open your mind and think outside the box. There's only one rule here and you're not even supposed to follow it.

Not that much info on it now, so I can't make a decent arguement against any limited viewpoints, but at least this won't be the usual do what you're told to reach the end deal.
