Let's Play Captain McGrandpa - Memory of the Forgotten
The Game Is Now Over!
Sorry if you missed it folks, but Captain McGrandpa - Memory of the Forgotten was a one-day event. We're going to keep the "game" in the GameTap Player for the rest of the week. We had a lot of fun though, please do read through the thread and see what you missed.
The fun continues with a look back at the making of the game, with Remembering Memories: A Captain McGrandpa Postmortem. Go check it out.
Thanks to everyone who participated, this was a really great April 1!

The sun shines dimly through the Venetian blinds in room 24B of the Idle Springs Retirement Home, where Captain McGrandpa spends the majority of what has become his day-to-day life. The good Captain stoops over on the foot of his bed, trying in vain to remember exactly what it was he was meant to do today. Can you help him?
McGrandpa's Room
Fifty years of hard labor and life experience have all amounted to this, a small studio with a private bathroom. It's not as nice as the beautiful home you were forced to leave behind, but on the upside, at least this one comes with a cleaning lady who comes in once a week to change your sheets. Your room is sparsely decorated, with a twin-sized bed, a dresser, a modest closet, and a television mounted to the wall. To the North is the room's exit, to the West is the restroom.

Re: Let's Play Captain McGrandpa - Memory of the Forgotten
Welcome to the Wonderful World of Captain McGrandpa
We thank you for your patronage.
How To Play
Tell Captain McGrandpa what to do. Most of the time he will follow your orders, but he is old, so he is sometimes confused. Please do not pressure Captain McGrandpa into doing things he is not comfortable with. Do not try to turn him on to modern music or reality television, he will not understand.
Official Rules
- First reply that is a direct command is what we go with. If you want to issue a command to Captain McGrandpa, get in the thread early and refresh often so no one beats you to it.
- The Grandpa Master (GM) (that's me) will respond with the immediate results of your action. The GM may choose to veto commands he finds inappropriate or stupid. The GM may also choose to combine commands for the sake of a better game.
- Remember, you're all playing together. Don't go all lone gunman and try to take the game over. Learn to love everyone who is playing. It is best to work together as one gigantic hive mind. Embrace the cog mentality.
- When not issuing a command, the Captain McGrandpa - Memory of the Forgotten interface can be used as an open discussion forum. Discuss strategy with your fellow players, and try to make Captain McGrandpa the best Captain McGrandpa he can be.

It's a simple, Twin-sized bed, the kind you haven't had since you were a child. You notice your wallet sticking out from under a pillow, and add it to your inventory.

Go check the mail.
That's the first thing you're supposed to do in a text adventure game, right? Check the mailbox?

It comes as no surprise to learn that you do not have a mailbox in your bedroom.

Your closet contains your entire wardrobe, a framed photograph, and a bag of butterscotch candies.

Sorry about that.
Is take photo and candies multiple commands?

It's a photograph of a cow. You don't remember its significance, but you've had it for years, so it must be important.

You take the items, quickly realize you have no pockets in which to stuff them, and return them neatly to their original places in the closet.
Perhaps something in your wardrobe has pockets.

Looking closely at your options, you finally decide on a pair of sensible trousers and The Cardigan of Infinite Pockets.

Though you have no idea why, something compels you to put the Photograph of Cow in the Cardigan of Infinite Pockets.
Ah, Butterscotch Candies, can't leave home without them. You slip a large supply of Butterscotch Candies into the Cardigan of Infinite Pockets.

There are two exits, be specific.
>Goto bathroom.
It's a small bathroom. Unlike Charlie next door, you don't have hand rails on the tub, because they make you feel old. The bathroom contains its usual fixtures, most interesting among them a medicine cabinet.
