I've noticed a lot of discussion lately about GameTap's free game model, mainly revolving around requests to make certain games from our Gold catalog free. We're always open to your suggestions, but the trouble is, it's hard to keep track of all these requests! From now on, let's try to keep all free game requests and discussion in this thread.

For reference, as of the time of this writing, GameTap has 117 free games, which you can see here:

This means we have 885 that are NOT free. To see these Gold-only games, go here.

GameTap adds one new free game a week from its Gold catalogue, so there is still plenty more to come. We have a pretty good idea of which ones to release, but we're always open to hear what you guys have to say! Of course, we can't make EVERY game free, so please limit your suggestions to a small number, no more than ten.

who ever wrote this is a good person okay hitman contracts, tomb raider anniversery, metal slug 2 and x last blade 2 and king of fighters 97 98 in my opinion should not be gold games i dont want to get a membership with alot of crappy game (no offense)

amd baulders gate 1 that game is so fricken old and also deus ex

Hitman: Contracts was free for about three months to promote the HItman movie, you should have gotten here earlier! The rest are very reasonable suggestions, and we will consider them all. Thanks!

Please, this is for people who want to suggest which games should be available to green members, not another "I want gold 4 free pls."

I want gold for free! I'm paying $60/yr for all this high quality stuff... I want it for free now!

Well, ok, what I REALLY want is the full list, not the gimped one I get as a member of a superior nation ;)

As for free games though.. Starscape. Seriously.. that little game got me ready to buy a copy from Moonpod more than once.. and then it came on Gametap. Heh. Saved me, thankfully. But just imagine.. Joe Green playing, playing... right up to the last zone. Moving up to the big end boss.. and then the next day.. no longer in the free catalogue! NOO!! So he buys a subscription like that!

Well, ok, maybe not, but you've gotta admit it is a fun addictive game, and a good example of some of the stuff Gametap gets. (Besides, you've already got all my other suggestions!)

If hitman contracts used to be free cant it once be free again anytime soon. Please i love the whole hitman series and i never played contracts. and when does street fighter new challengers come to free games. Thnx for all ur help< i love gametap rock on.

We may make it free again, we haven't made a decision yet. As for specific times and dates, we can't reveal our full schedule ahead of time, so you'll just have to keep checking back! As mentioned in the original post, they generally add one new free game each week. That will usually happen each Thursday, which is also the day that new games are added to the gold subscription.

Here's a wild suggestion how about a Special Gold game going free for a week Once a month?
Not talking specifics here just choose one at random that you'd be able to do it with

I'd really like to see toejam and earl as a free game! I've only played it once when I was like 4 so
I have no good memories of it whatsoever.

Oh, and would it be possible to add a challenge lobby to rampage?

what about a voting mechanism, where games that are not contractually unavailable are put up for voting, and by being gold, you can vote for it, but free cannot, hence increasing incentive to go gold? (or gold having more than one vote, and green only one.)

having oldschool stuff is OK, but to really grab new people, newer stuff is better. I vote for Serious Sam on the basis that free needs a good fps, and if I saw that ad on tv, i'd sign up right away. (green of course, but then the newer stuff draws you in :)

My request for free games on Gametap would have to go to Sid Meier's Pirates, Deus Ex, or any other good RPG because the free game section is lacking in the RPG area.

That would be the point of this thread, to suggest Gold games that should be free.

Deus Ex actually seems pretty likely, too. I got it for free with a magazine several years ago.
