It costs a lot in time, development (the retro player), and in money (contracts) so it's complicated

Yeah thats what you wanna do download illegal roms lol that will help everyone hmm lets see who it hurts 1 it hurts you why because 1 when people get there games free it hurts legitimate sites like gametap and it hurts the publisher because it takes there income .If it takes there income that means they have to charge more to get back the money invested due to poor sales and 2 it doesnt matter if you are copying a 20 year old copy of galaga or a new copy of batman the penalty is the same. Do i think there should be a point when publishers say enough is enough lets put it in public domain ,yeah and some have but not most. And putting a rom site in the forums is just bad manners really you are undercutting gametap but you have a track record of it smooth when they are late or have a bad conversion you always harp on yer gonna be playing on xbox or ps3 always and here you are again undercutting gametap by nameing a rom site you probably dont even play any retro games. You just look for a way to blast gametap. Good job smooth real smooth

 Re: Retro games removal updates
Ok....Impaler 1stly....I was suggested that site by someone on this site. Your wrong about some things 1st of all I love retro games.....and that site is free for anybody. I'm not undercutting anything it's not my fault that that site is free while GT struggles. I was just trying to be helpful for people who enjoy retro games. Nobody would even have to visit that site if GT actually did anything for the Retro section. I dont harp on PS3 since I dont have one and yes I ask the opinions about xbox games from people on here....its nice to have feedback from other gamers. Dude your entitled to your opinion.....but whenever I have a problem I ask ?'s on here from other users...I dont go nuts like other users. Dude, and take your track record comment and shove it fool. I like GT and wouldnt be a member if I didnt. It's not my fault the retro section is now horrible on here and that other site I dont download games....you get a certain amount of free plays and that's it. So no offense...chill out.
By the way.....I do not look for a way to blast Gametap and since I pay for this service when I dont like the games that come out...I can have an opinion just like you. GT has lost members lately b/c of the quality of games. I know for weeks I have sat back and if I didnt like the games I'd say nothing or just that im not interested. If you go back through the weeks of games when posted you will see alot of people are frustrated by the games that are being released.

I'm not going to name names, but it would be helpful if you argued with proper grammar and spelling. Otherwise you both just look like idiots.

 Re: Retro games removal updates
Says it's legal =/= is legal. However, there is a large degree of interpretation as to the legal status of ROMs and older software. While the arguments made by the website are indeed legally valid, there are legal arguments on the other side. Neither side would cleanly win the court case, much less easily profit, but there is both moral and legal ambiguity. The most common arguments for when ROM or program is acceptable for download for free are: 1) No longer distributed (at least in original form) on the open market by an official vendor (so people selling copies online doesn't count, because that money never goes back to the developers/publishers) 2) No longer supported or protected by a company or organization, meaning that it's widely accepted in the communities as fair game, and there haven't been lawsuits or removal requests by the owners of the software or content. 3) Never copied for profit, since that is making money off of the work of a company that probably could be selling it. and the clearest, and the only one I would use as justification 4) No longer owned as intellectual property. This would mean that the company owning the rights to the software folded under, sold the rights to a company that no longer exists, rights are not attached to a company (no one knows who exactly owns it), or company that owns the software has stated that it's fair game (for example, Bethesda releasing TES: Arena or TES: Daggerfall to promote later games in the series).
*I would never, under any circumstances, recommend actually using a downloaded ROM or pirated software. However, these are the stipulations used by the community as for their justification of these actions. They hold no legal bearing (except maybe the last point) and just because you could justify an action, that action is not intrinsically right. I would personally advise that you never, ever use any way to access software that you do not have the explicit legal right to access, but figured I should clarify/muddle the debate on the matter. As a rule of thumb, never use any online source outside of legal distribution channels provided by the publisher, unless no other source (online or off) exists.

Legal or not, the games can be played with a google search. Everyone knows it, no one can stop it. DOSbox forever!...
