 Stargate Universe
Anyone else catch the premier? I can't decide if I liked it or not. The story could be really interesting, even though its not highly original, but none of the characters struck me as particularly likable. The guy having sex in a storeroom was a bit out of place in Stargate as well. I know they wanted it "younger and sexier" but that really struck me wrong for the series.
It does have some potential and hopefully some of the people will stand out in the next few episodes. What did other people think?

 Re: Stargate Universe
Didn't watch it, the promos scared me off...looks like they're sending a bunch of high-schoolers through the Stargate. I can't get in to shows where I can't agree with the premise. As if a bunch of kids would be in the SG-1 program.
Stargate was awesome up until MacGyver left. The spinoffs have been a big disappointment so far. (IMO)
Off-topic, another spinoff that shouldn't have been made: The Cleveland Show. And I thought American Dad was lame.

 Re: Stargate Universe
I have caught the second half. No teenager's going into space, just a young adult that happens to be a very intelligent gamer that was able to solve an ancient mathematical program that SGC's top scientists could not solve.
So far it looks to be interesting. I have set a reminder to catch the beginning of the pilot when it comes on again tomorrow.

 Re: Stargate Universe
American Dad is awesome (IMO), but it needed a season to break away from being Family Guy 2 and become its own show. I think Cleveland Show will probably need the same thing.
On the plus side, the bear's awesome.
Also nothing will ever beat the Stargate movie. And this is coming from somebody who watched a whole 4 episodes of SG-1 (actually, it might've technically been 3, since the pilot's double-length, IIRC).

I thought Space MacGyver was pretty two-dimensional as far characters go. Well... Most of the cast was, but Space MacGyver was especially bad. I thought that the series got better when he left. Don't misunderstand me though, I really like the show. I own the first five seasons, and plan on buying the rest (including Atlantis). I took me a really long time to accept SG-1 at first. They did such a wonderful job of ruining the movie, and getting everything wrong. At times i thought they were deliberately insulting me by mispronouncing Sha're. Eventually though i learned to accept it for what it is, and grew to enjoy watching it.

 Re: Stargate Universe
Actually I meant the plots were awesome up until around the time R.D.A. left. I never much liked any of the characters on the TV show, spare General Hammond. Actually, even before Col. JackGyver O'Neil left the show it went downhill. Once Daniel Jackson "died" and became that weird hippie buddhist ghost thing I lost all interest in the show.

 Re: Stargate Universe
OK I caught the last half of SGU and it seemed to me like they were trying to do BSG meets Stargate, which was a little odd. that is all for now.

 Re: Stargate Universe
O'neill and Teal'c were my favorites from SG-1, Hammond was up there too. I liked Daniel overall, and I didn't hate Carter but didn't care if she died either. Have a major crush on the actress who played Dr. Frasier though. I absolutely hated Vala and while I watched the last of the series, I didn't enjoy them as much. The guy who took over for O'neill wasn't bad. I liked Atlantis too even though they used the "Oh no! The city is malfunctioning/The city has detected a disease/The city is in a bad mood and we are trapped" storyline a bit too often. Never counted how many episodes included it, just seemed like a lot. Kind of hated Rodney in that series though. Worried that Stargate Universe will end up that way, since the ship is damaged, most of it is unexplored and not yet open to the survivors. I am sure it will happen a few times, but hoping it is rare.

Agreed, I think the fact that it's so far removed from Family Guy (i.e., totally different characters, totally different setup) helps. It's definitely become better since season 1. And anything comedic Patrick Stewart says in that serious English voice just kills me. buster42 wrote: On the plus side, the bear's awesome. | | |
The bear is the funniest thing in The Cleveland Show. They should just make it "The Bear Show". I'd rather watch that.

 Re: Stargate Universe
It felt like I was watching Battlestar Galactica also. This first episode of SGU left me feeling empty. There is just a whole bunch of stuff thrown in to one show. It looks very different from the other SG shows. If that is what they were going for than okay, but I will need to watch a couple more shows to see if like it.

" Piqued" your interest. Sorry. Pet peeve. Don't mean to sound like an ass, correcting spelling and all.

 Re: Stargate Universe
There's potential there for something worth adding to my Hulu subscriptions. Just have to see what they do with it.
