Wow.. I just saw this thread while trying to find a fix to my problem.. Can't believe that 64bit is not supported. I purchased my computer with no option of a 32bit of anything. So in effect I purchased myself right out of using Gametap. Well was fun but I will be canceling my acount, and from multiple posts in here I am not alone in this area.

I do hope who ever is at fault for this lapse gets some nice "praise".

We're sorry to see you go, but hopefully we'll have 64-bit support soon and you can come back :D

I hope that when you guys get 64 bit support in place for the Windows games you let all of us previous subscribers know. I would re-subscribe right now if there was 64 bit support.

No boxes in my house with 32 bit OS anymore... sadly that means no Gametap and my premium subscription is currently useless... I wouldn't recommend this service to friends at this point...

I agree. I had an older about 2003 wiindows XP cpu. I used it on gametap and had over 300 windows games. I bought a new vista 64 bit. I heard it was better than the standard 32 bit, not knowing that 64 bit wasn't compatible with gametap. When I bought my computer I also bought a high-end graphics card for gametap because my older computer only had a piece of junk intel... which barely anything worked on or else it was laggy. I tried gametap and, to my disappointment, it didn't work. So now I am very disappointed in gametap not being windows 64 bit compatible. I used to think highly of gametap but... until they make all games 64 bit compatible... I hate to see gametap slowly fading away from newer computers.

I don't know how doable this may be, but can a tab or category or something be added for games that are playable on 64bit Vista? Just a thought. Maybe molify some of these gripers that are not really offering anything constructive.

We have one. It's called the Classic Pack. Those games will all work under 64 bit.

So, throw us a bone as to when support will be available for the other games. If you've not noticed it's pretty highly requested.

Staff won't be able to provide you with a date because they're still trying to figure out exactly how all this would work and how long it would take.

Giving a date, or even an estimate, like "QX 20XX", is a little foolish at best because there's no guarantee they'd be able to meet it if some technical issue comes up.

So, in short, the ETA is "When its ready."

Well, I am now one of the people hoping this gets resolved sooner rather than later. My old computer bit the big one and I bought a new one. Guess what, it's preloaded with vista 64 bit. So, right now, my game tap subscription is sitting laughing at me.

Looking forward to 64-bit compatibility. I've been a paying member of GameTap since the first year (under another handle, and this one), and been through a lot of growing pains - Linksys router lock-ups on video feeds, losing my original account when the system couldn't figure out how to change credit card numbers when my card was stolen, and so on. Most new systems will likely be 64-bit in another year or two, hope GameTap doesn't get left behind. Playing the classic pack is fine, but there are a lot of newer games I'd like to try as well.

So from what I've read this seems to be a 3rd party issue. So can I at least assume that the third party is aware of this failure on their part and are working on a solution?

An estimate is better than nothing. If you've not read through this topic, gametap is losing a LOT of customers to this problem, and you' would think it's something they would want resolved sooner rather than later. 64 bit operating systems are becoming the norm. There's not smart reason to buy a OS currently that isn't 64 bit. It's more foolish for them to deny their customers the info, or even small details at this point with the amount of people already gone because of this.

I ask again of the staff please and not a moderator that doesn't officially work for gametap. We've been begging you guys for this for months, has any progress been made since the announcement? It doesn't have to be a date, just any info would be nice to know. you know, kind of keep your paying customers in the know about this since we've stuck through not being able to use the reason we joined gametap to begin with. The games.

Just an observation, but it would seem to me that anyone who could come up with an encryption program for 64-bit systems that would work with clients like this would stand to make a rather HEFTY profit. You'd think there would be someone working on just creating that kind of program (not at GT, necessarily, but anywhere), rather than trying to adapt current ones to systems they were clearly not designed to deal with.

From the sound of it, he who builds the first one will walk away with lots of cash

Zorlac666, 64-Bit OS compatibility is as big a deal to us as it is to you, so I assure as soon as there is an update I will be screaming it from the roof tops.

Post Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
I'll vote for 64 bit support too. I've been a Gametap customer for several years and love the service. Luckily when I built my new 64 bit pc I kept my old 32 bit xp machine. For now I'll use it for Gametap, but hopefully there will be 64 bit support before my 32 bit machine is unable to play newer games, since I don't plan to upgrade it anymore. Also if this new Onlive service takes off (I think it launches later this year?), and Gametap doesn't have 64 bit support yet, that could definitely be disastrous for Gametap. Onlive will probably cost more but it also won't care how many bits your PC has. I didn't read through the entire thread (20 pages...) but can Gametap let us paying customers know who this mysterious third party involved actually is? Maybe if they knew what a huge impact their delay is having it would light a fire under their backsides. If the answer has already been stated, I apologize for the redundant post.

That's actually a fairly good point Lil'C - if you pointed out what company is the one being used currently, I'm sure a lot of us would be more than happy to flood them with "get your behinds in gear and develop a 64 bit version dumbbells" messages all day long. Lighting a fire under their behinds does sound like a smart move - my machine is approaching terminal status, and I'd really love to be able to get a new machine with 64 bit OS and know that GameTap would be able to support it for ALL the games (I pay for premium).

So who do you use as is? Let me at em, let me at em...

That's exactly why we don't tell you. Rabid fans aren't going to help a business relationship.

:o  :o
RABID??
 :?

Isn't that just a little harsh?
Anyway, what I was thinking was really more along the lines of telling to work on it, instead of just sitting on their laurels, as it were. As for the relationship, yeah, fair enough...

But... but... I want my new computer already, and I don't wanna lose GameTap! Wah...

The company who does the encryption is Exent as has been said in this forum numerous times. Exent Technologies, Exent.com it's the same company nearly every video game on demand company uses.

This has been a problem for at least three years I really doubt any amount of mail would change that.

We do have an on going relationship with our current encryption provider, I'd rather them focus on getting us games instead of answering e-mails ;)

It's disheartening to first click on this thread and see that it began in October of last year. I've been paying for Gametap for about a year now, but its been about eight months since I've actually used it. Gametap, please, I'm throwing away a bit of money every month simply because I want your business to do well...I love my classic PC games and want easy access to them always. I'll continue paying for the gold account, but man...it's getting difficult.

You preface this post by saying it's a defense of Gametap...but I doubt Gametap would want to be portrayed as being unsympathetic to their customers. They can't act as if services like Good old Games and Steam don't exist...and that's exactly where their former customers will end up if Gametap doesn't listen to them. We live in a crazy crazy capitalist society.
