Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
OP updated with some general streamlining and clean-up work since Yummy integration is starting to get underway. Since I've seen this question come up at least 3 times in the last month, I added this as well: Quote: Q: OK! Great! Does that mean that when Yummy's switched on that I can play all of the games? A: Unfortunately not. All games that were encoded under the old driver have to be re-encoded to use Yummy. This is a painstaking and time-consuming process. GameTap staffers have said that they hope to re-release a couple of games per week that have been re-encoded with Yummy. They plan to start with the most popular games on the service and work down from there. | | |

Will the 64 bit client service be provided at a reduced subscription fee since it will apparently take months before a sizable percentage of gametap's games will be available?

Is there a way you could use distributed computing to re-encode? If there was a CUDA-enabled network computing system you could use I bet my GTX295 and every other GT user's vid cards could re-encode the whole library in no time.

There already is such an option in the form of the "Classic" pack. All games in the classic pack are fully 64-bit compatible right now. Of course, there are no Windows titles in this package. tsymyn wrote: Is there a way you could use distributed computing to re-encode? It's not an issue of the actual physical encoding. Most of the time-consuming part is actually having the QA team go back over the games to find out if there are any new issues that pop up with it running through Gametap, and if so, figuring out a way around it, possibly meaning re-encoding it again.

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
This is ridiculous. All the games I signed up for this to play won't run under 64bit, and I just charged 80$ to play a bunch of games I could play on my normal game systems, or just download with emulators. Where's the link to cancel the subscription, since you guys like to hide it?

you mean tis one: https://www.gametap.com/secure/cancellation-reason.html(FWIW it's on the "My account page" right under the part that tells you your current subscription.)

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
So, have any games been recoded for 64 bit yet? Last year about this time I remember being told support was coming soon, so I was convinced to keep my account active. Any news yet on an update, or will it be another wasted year of money if I resub?
Also, guys. This is something you should have taken more seriously when developing the original coding. Not really much to say about it other than it was a terrible decision not to include 64 bit support from the start. (This fact has come up as a laughing point by other people on a few forums i visit), and while you may not care about that, word of mouth is free advertisement....unless your games dont' work on tons of computers.

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
You want this: http://gametapblog.com/trine-headed-to- ... atibility/As I understand, future games will be released for 64 bit, and the older games will be recoded as time allows (presumably starting with the most popular and working their way backwards.) Also, it's worth pointhing out that from a Games On Demand standpoint, when GT came out Exent (the now outgoing driver) was the only kid on the market, so GT didn't really have any choices. Then corperate inertia set in....

Is the QA for Yummy going well? No major snags or anything?

Hey since the games will probably be re-encoded at a rate of about 2 per week will could you maybe keep a post stickied with a list of 64 bit ready games as they become available. Just a thought for the admins.

I second this suggestion / request. Put it in an easy-to-find place, so those of us with 64-bit OSes can more easily keep track of when it's time to ... you know ... start giving you guys money, again!

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
If all goes well, our first 64-bit game, Trine, will go live on Thursday!
We're putting a 64-bit filter option in the game browsing area to make it easy to find the 64-bit games.

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
I know GT said that the virtual driver doesn't support 64bit but what's a bit strange is that 64bit OS's will support 32bit apps without issue.

But not drivers necessarily, from Microsoft's own mouth "Drivers designed for 32-bit versions of Windows don't work on computers running 64-bit versions of Windows."

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
Ok, guys, we now have our first 64-bit PC game available here. Let the celebration commence. We are going to be adding more 64-bit games as the weeks progress. I'm going to leave this thread open for feedback for now.

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
WooHoo Running Windows 7 Professional x64 (RTM - as an MS partner I've had it since August!). Trine runs perfectly! Do believe the posting about needing the PhysX drivers. I thought I had them already installed but the game would crash after hitting the launch button. All was good after installing PhysX.

Now that 64-bit works, so does my Gametap downloader. I can finally download without any problems! Thanks Gametap!

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
Woo!
I've been waiting 2 years for this, checking GameTap every month or so for updates. Now that the first 64-bit compatible game has arrived, I've gone ahead and resubscribed as I'm sure many others who have made the switch to x64 will do. So far so good, no problems whatsoever with Trine. I just hope it won't be too long before more games are added. Speaking of which, are all new games added to the GameTap library from this point onward going to be 64-bit compatible?

Most new games will be, but I can't say for sure that it will be every new game.

This made my freaking day! Thanks a ton for all the work to get 64bit compatibility up and running!
On a side note, there are some crazy awesome titles coming soon.

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
Thanks for finally making progress on this. I have put off playing a lot of these games because of this. Hopefully, you'll get to the rest of the games soon.
If the delay now is really just a matter of testing and not recompiling, maybe you can consider releasing 64-bit "beta" titles, and let the user decide if they want to take the chance on possible bugs.
edit: actually, maybe the "beta" option is not a good idea if it means it would require users to keep redownloading entire games as they get fixed.

Good to see that some major progress has finally come to fruition, but is there going to be a list of supported windows titles anywhere?

I'm guessing the filters not in yet because it would only show one game.
