The web player won't install again, or work at all.
The first time running the website add-on, it worked perfectly. But after that, it would say "Failed to intialize, please refresh" every single time.
Instead of deleting it properly, I went to Program Files and deleted the Gametap folder. Now whenever I try to run the Gametap software in Firefox, it will install, restart Firefox, but always say "Loading...". When I go to My Games, I see a white screen. Internet Explorer 7 does the exact same thing.
If it helps at all, I've noticed that the Gametap Player folder does not appear in my Program Files any more, even after I install it. Ever since I deleted it the first time, it's never been put back on my computer during the other ten times I tried re-installing Gametap so far. If there was a way to download the Web Player to your hard drive before installing it, I think that might fix the problem. Like a link for it on Download.com, I might actually check for that anyway and cross my fingers. Speaking of which, does anyone know if a safe downloadable version exists anywhere?
Things I have tried to fix the problem myself
1) I tried deleting the addons in both Firefox and Internet Explorer. They will still try to install (the pop-up appears on the top of my screen, and I do reset my browser), but upon restarting, it goes to the "Installing" page for a moment, then instantly redirects me back to the home page, and never works.
2) Originally, I was using Firefox 3.0.8 I believe, and Internet Explorer 6. I tried both overwriting the existing installs with the newest versions (Firefox is now 3.5.4, and I opted for Internet Explorer 7 since it was listed on Gametap's site as preferred). I also tried completely uninstalling Firefox, then installing the new version. Both had the same end result.
3) I have tried clearing the caches of both browsers.
4) I have allowed *.gametap.com as a trusted website on both browsers.
5) I tested my ActiveX for Internet Explorer, and it worked perfectly.
6) I used CCleaner to clean my registry of all possible items that might have been left behind by me deleting the Gametap Web Player folder, versus uninstalling it using the Control Panel.
7) I even tried using my computer's Quick Restore program to set everything back to the way it was before I even downloaded the GameTap Web Player. Still didn't work.
8) I also installed the newest versions of Flash, Java, and Shockwave just to see if that would help. It didn't.
If you ask me, the problem is clearly that, for some reason, the Web Player will not install itself on my computer ever since I deleted the folder from Program Files. As I said earlier, if there is any way I could get a hold of someone's Gametap Web Player folder that is not having troubles, I could try to put that in my Program Files, and pray. Or if there is a downloadable version available anywhere, then I can manually install the plugins through that, or is that even possible?
Any help would be appreciated, whether they be more random fix ideas, or a link to a downloadable version of the plugin installer would be great.
