Re: Why Is Grimm Rating M
They must have updated Gametap on the contents of the game. I have heard it is supposed to be a pretty dark series of games, not cute like the characters show. Not to surprised it was moved up if it was set for T.

Re: Why Is Grimm Rating M
Well, if they're going for the original Grimm Fairy Tales in their full glory...yeah that would be rated M by today's standards. Bloody, violent and just plain mean in a lot of places.
Could still change though, it still doesn't have an ESRB rating and I'm sure Gametap would let that take precedence over their in house rating system.

Re: Why Is Grimm Rating M
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Grimm series have an M rating due to the darkness of the tales and the gore! I was hoping for a T rating so it would be available to more of a wider selection of gamers but who knows? It won't be truly official until the date of July 31st I bet. Kinda wait and see thing. Lots can change between now and then!
I can't wait regardless!

Re: Why Is Grimm Rating M
It's quite possible that the developers found out Gametap was giving it a teen rating, and insisted "Look, with all of what happens, it needs an M rating!" and Gametap said "Fine."
You know, believe it or not, developers who make really disturbing stuff don't want kids at it. It leads to Jack Thompson.. and NO ONE wants that.

Re: Why Is Grimm Rating M
I adamantly maintain that video games don't make kids violent - but sometimes they can inspire an already disturbed kid. This is where the oversight of parents is really the main factor.
As I understand it, the episodes are going to be rated individually, but many are definitely going to be in the "M" category for content, violence, gore, and topical humor. Some might make it down to "T", but I can tell you that I'm probably not going to let my under-14 kids play it for a few more years.
They really do revert back to the original story lines, and if you have read them, you know that they're not all about the happy endings. The original "Little Mermaid", for instance, ended with the mermaid NOT getting the prince AND she died, being unable to return to her family for her infraction of going "top-side". You won't get THAT from a Disney movie...

Re: Why Is Grimm Rating M
Really Lilith?? Wow! I don't know the real fairy tales then lol I only know the Disney happily ever after! Thats kinda how I am though...I love the cute fluffy bunnies, but I do like the darker side of things too! I agree its up to the parents and I wouldn't let my kid if he was 14 ect. play them either...I just want Gametap and Grimm to be as popular as can be!
Now to read up on some classic fairytales!
Thanks for responding Lilith! It's really great of you! I can't wait for Grimm!

I agree, Games dont make kids voilent. Its the Kid's mind.
When I was 10-12 I played numerous voilent games such as GTA, and you dont see or hear about me stealing a car and going a a rampage/killing spree.

Re: Why Is Grimm Rating M
The game wasn't created specifically to get an M rating, that's just kinda the way it's worked out. And from playing a few episodes now, it richly deserves it - but not in the "blood-guts-gore-violence" kind of way so much as the "threatens the foundation of formative folk tales with the original very-adult material" kind of way.
These days, it's not so uncommon to have an M rating, and based on the average age and personality of the existing +Alice+ fan-base, I don't think it'll be that big of an issue. Maybe "not many" people have heard about it now, but just give it a little time - we've got until the end of July, and I think we're going to see a significant increase in interest.
(I knew that this would come up...) +Oz+ is shelved for the time being, as the house that currently has the rights is waiting to continue development. You'll have to be satisfied for now with the concept art and movie rumors that are still floating in the aether.

Re: Why Is Grimm Rating M
Maybe with Grimm coming out and being successful that will bring about more interest with continuing OZ? I can't wait for Grimm, and also to hear about what is in the works next for American?!! I bet everyone there at Spicy Horse is busy working with getting ready for Grimm to be released! Any word about other ways besides Gametap yet about how people that can't use Gametap to play Grimm? I know there are a bunch of other countries that can't get Gametap sadly. I do hope that will change since Gametap ios awesome!

Re: Why Is Grimm Rating M
For the most part, I think McGee develops and promotes games with adequate responsibility. The main gripe I have is when studios/publishers intentionally target ultra-violent content toward minors (parents can be equally bad in this responsibility department), and often, it seems as if their sole purpose is to outgore the competition.
Alice had a twisted concept, but I didn't think the content was gratuitous. McGee has also made it clear that his games are for adults (when most developers would avoid saying something that might limit their audience), which is something I respect.

I spent quite a bit of time over on American's website/blog and really think highly of him! I agree with you about him stating that his games are for adults and he doesn't market to kids which is something I admire too. I also like that he has gone through Gametap and encourages others to try Gametap for Grimm since they are the ones who got everything rolling for Grimm. I know its business ect and he has to but its still nice to see...I know I am a total fan of Gametap lol but I think they are great. I really am excited for Grimm!
It's almost here!! yay

Re: Why Is Grimm Rating M
When I say that there are similarities, it's definitely not in the game-play arena. At the core of what made +Alice+ the hit that it was is the telling of stories that resonate with the psyche on such a fundamental level that they cannot be denied. As an example, you may find yourself horrified at the fate of some king or thief as they are mutilated or tortured or burned, but the heart of your heart knows that they earned their just reward and only our "gentle social selves" choose to look away from the gruesome while still appreciating its validity.
Does that make sense?

Re: Why Is Grimm Rating M
Correction: They last 30 minutes if you rush through and try to beat the clock only. If you take your time and look for all the extra bits and maybe try to get bonuses for turning the entire map dark, it takes a lot longer. (I haven't done one in less than 2 hours, frankly...)

I can neither confirm nor deny the presence of any title not already leaked to the public.
And, for further clarification, the first episode will be available for free indefinitely, and all other episodes will be free for the first 24 hours.
Like crack... just enough to hook ya... ;-)

You're going to make me blush... :-D
The fact is that I'd much rather hear your honest opinion on literally anything than a bunch of glad-handing and smile-plastering, and your input has been wonderful.
AM Pikmin... I imagine the first step would have to be to quantify exactly how many ways we could blow them up, then devise some nefarious reason to make them blow up for the greater good, and then...
mmm...
Maybe I should just focus on Grimm right now...

Re: Why Is Grimm Rating M
Ya know what Lilith? It could work!! American Mcgee presents Pikmin...the Adventure continues! Have the little Pikmin holding a lit stick of dynamite. LOL it could happen! Although it might be hard to get Nintendo to agree (evil grin)
What about Grimm taking over history? Have the true history of things not the watered down happy versions that we got shoveled while in school though. I love Grimm and his trademark (ahem) hinney. I think that is how its spelled!
Grimm is getting closer!! YAY!! I can't wait to play them..no rushing through the levels for me! I read that most testers played them for longer than an hour which is a good thing! I know some are worried they will be too short or don't think that episodic games are any good. I do think once Grimm is out and played by the masses game developers will start looking into making episodes. I wonder if this is going to become the wave of the future? It could be interesting!

I would normally agree, but after playing Grimm I've been running around the house coloring everything with a sharpie and rolling the neighbor's dog around in the mud.
