Post Windows 7 Game Compatability List
This list is an updated version of my previous list, with reccomendations updated to reflect the new GameTap Player. Also, this list excludes all retro games played through the web browser. Finally, when possible I include tips and tricks to getting specific games running at their best.

This list assumes that you are:
  1. Running Windows 7 Final (Results From Windows 7 Beta or RC are marked as Untested in Windows 7).
  2. That you have installed PhysX, Games for Windows, Tages, OpenAL & Rapture3D (Rapture3D is optional), MSXML 4.0 SP3, MS C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable (x86), MS C++ 2010 Redistributable (x86), and used the DirectX Web Installer, which will install the older DirectX files needed for many GameTap games to run, but missing from Windows Vista and 7 (see the thread potential-fix-for-people-having-trouble-launching-games-t38232.html for more info).
  3. That you do not have any compatibility settings enabled for the GameTap Player
  4. That you have allowed the game to download completely.

Code:

Post Re: Windows 7 Game Compatability List
Nice post :)

This is a possible work around for far cry 2,

Open up the far cry 2 folder - C:\GameTap\Games\farcry2fe\bin

Then go to Farcry2Launcher - Click on file then select FarCry 2.

You should now be prompted to update the Tages drivers click yes - this will update and then should ask you to enter the activation key, You can get this from your Mygames and underneath the play button where far cry 2 is listed.

Enter key and go.

Overlord 2 - I have no problems with at all, try reinstalling the Physx drivers again as I know someone had the same problem but reinstalled these and it worked.

Also check the post in the General forum similar to this.

Thanks

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - Listing is incorrect. Having played the game for some time, I can tell you that it indeed launches under Windows 7.

NOTICE - Depending on your graphics card, you may need to disable fog for the best visual effect.

I just figured out the issue, I needed to install the DirectX 9 SDK. After that, Overlord 2 started working. Just curious, but are DirectX files stripped out of games in the same way that PhysX is? I've never had this issue with non-GameTap games.

An update to your list:

Working games on my Win7 64-bit rig with no problems:

Fahrenheit
Flatout 2
Freight Tycoon Inc
Freelancer
Ghost Master
Imperium Romanum Gold
Prison Tycoon 4
Sherlock Holmes - Mystery of the Persian Carpet
Star Wolves 3
Street Fighter 4

Games with issues:

Pharaoh Gold - The speed of the game is way off. At default speed, everything goes too fast. If you slow it down even to 90% , the game pauses.

These are the games I've tried so far since the update. I'll post more as I play them.

I could be off here, but I wonder if setting CPU affinity might solve that...

That's a good idea. I'll try that as soon as my account is in working order again and post the results.

I need someone to try testing The Guild 2 to see if the lack of visual content (audio still works) in the opening cutscene is local to my computer. Also, does anyone have thoughts as to how I should classify games that have this or similar problems? Should I create a new list of partially compatable games?

I like your lists, so I'll provide some feedback. I've put at least a few hours into the following under Win 7 64...

GRID - no issues.
Heroes of Hellas - no issues.
Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 - no issues.
Rayman 3 - no issues.
UT2004 - constantly opens in a window, but that's the only issue, and alt+enter fixes it quick.

I'll add more as I keeping playing.

Some games work on some rigs and not others. My mostly identical rig can run some things my brother's can't (like UFO: Aftershock).

I'm intrigued, you say the computers are "mostly" identical? How are they different?

For duel-core CPUs you are correct, however, my new AMD Phenom II X4 is not recognized as a supported CPU type.

I use this list to see what can work on GT with Win 7. I don't wanna waste bandwidth on a game that can't possibly work. Hopefully no one is reading this list like it's some sort of guarantee.

Graphics cards. Kaw's met with an untimely (and smoky) demise.

An update: I can't get Fable TLC to run on my computer. I've tried everything that I can think of and it always crashes when starting a new game. Perhaps this should be added to your list.

EDIT: Fuel also works fine on Win7 64bit.

Hmmm...looks like they didn't fix that problem when they upgraded it to Yummy (Fable: TLC also wouldn't work on Vista or 7 before it was converted either). Glad to hear about Fuel though.

I had problems with "Dirt 2" on Win7 64bit. Had to install the OpenAL sound drivers, even though I do not have a Creative board. Looking at older threads, missing OpenAL drivers could be a common problem, and one more thing to make sure you have installed.

That said, I've been unable to run CoH - Tales of Valor on Win7.

Ok, I just checked out OpenAL, and the current driver status looks complicated. Apparently it was open-source until version 1.1 at which time it became the proprietary Rapture 3D OpenAL. At the same time some dedicated developer forked OpenAL into OpenAL Soft which supports the newer systems but is not compatable with Ogg Vorbis or MP3 extentions (which may or may not be used in GameTap games). Finally there's the last OpenAL implementation. So I have to ask, which one did you install to get Dirt 2 working? If you could provide a link that would be awesome.

If there's confusion over which one to use, I'd use the one on the download page, as it's the one that GT supports you use. If you can't get it to work, they're going to tell you to install it either way.

Rise of Nations Gold works fine in 7 after installing MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 3. It appears to be the only one that supports anything past XP (not including weird versions of Windows.) Here's the exact file I used: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/d ... laylang=en

Before installing this, it'd be a good idea to uninstall any msxml installations you may already have. Despite not listing Windows 7 as a supported OS in this download, I can assure you that it worked for me. (No surprise there, 7 is really similar to Vista in a lot of ways.)

Also, Age of Mythology Gold downloads now, just worked here. AoM Gold also wouldn't run until I installed the above file.
