 WTF: Thunderdome Round 9 (03/05/09)

A weekly published grassroots project of awesome.
WTF Wednesday is a staging ground to deploy interactive, engaging discussions, and random grassroots projects to our online GameTap Community to participate and interact in. Staff and Community participation encouraged! Created by gamers, for gamers.

"Listen on, listen on, this is the truth of it. Gaming leads to fighting, and fighting gets to flame wars, and that was near the death of our forum. But we've learned by locked threads, Gametap's learned. Gametap Thunderdome is simple, play the challenge games, and defend them in the forum. Two games enter, one game leaves."
Every week we will pick two rival games, play them with you, then head to the forums to debate the highs and lows of each title, vote for your champion, and hopefully crown a winner. The winning game will go on to the next round of Gametap Thunderdome to duke it out with a new game.

Strange matchup. Completely different genres. I'm voting for SFA3 because KOTR is pretty much static, in that every time you play you meet the same enemies in the same places, and nothing changes. SFA3 is dynamic, every fight is different. Plus I like to play SFA3 more than I do KOTR :).

im throwing my vote away on knights because i suck at fighting games,i like medieval settings, arthurs jump attack looks +EPIC+,and how many games have an enemy simply named "Fat Guy"

Re: WTF: Thunderdome Round 9 (03/05/09)
SFA3 is just another SF game. KotR offers fun gameplay with a cast that is honestly underused in videogames (I would love to see a Morrowind style King Arthur game). The only bad thing about it is that it does not offer a chance to play all of the Knights - just Arthur, Lancelot, and Perceval - would be fun to whip some ass with Bors or Galahad...or even lay waste with Merlin (yeah I know he isnt one of the knights, but he is associated so shut it!)

Re: WTF: Thunderdome Round 9 (03/05/09)
Street Fighter 3 Alpha is the better game. Since they aren't the same type of games you just have to look at where they are in their genre. SF3A brings in air blocking, a blocking meter, multiple types of fighting styles per character and multiple super moves. All that plus it still keeps the insanely technical aspects of all street fighter games. Even though I'm sure people who still run tournaments wouldn't touch the game, but though oddly will touch the 400th sequal to the game they are actually playing, street fighter 2. Knights of the Round really doesn't add much more than playing Golden Axe, and really I've played dungeon and dragon co-op games in arcades that had me way more addicted. So yeah Street Fighter Alpha 3 is my pick...

Re: WTF: Thunderdome Round 9 (03/05/09)
I voted for Knights of the Round. There is something nostalgic about this game for me. I've really enjoyed playing this one and an older, very similar D&D styled game at the arcades with friends. Sunday mornings at the arcade when I was little meant Gauntlet, Bride of Pinbot (pinball), KotR, and an Orange Julius from the foor court.
If the match were against the entire SF series, i'd have to vote SF. I didn't really get into SFA3 as much as a couple other entries in the SF series.
KotR has many more good memories. I can almost taste the Orange Julius now...

Re: WTF: Thunderdome Round 9 (03/05/09)
Kotr gets my vote for sure, i used to play this game in the arcade probably close to 9 or 10 years ago, and i always hated how that thing ate my quarters like it was nothing, so imagine my surprise when i see this on GameTap! needless to say i finally annihilated KOTR and i realized it made all those quarters worth it way back then. As for SFA3....still a great game, maybe not the best street fighter in my opinion but still decent, nothing compared to KOTR for me though.

KotR voters are representing! SF is ahead, but most of its voter are apparently casting secret ballots and then hiding their faces in SHAME!!!

Re: WTF: Thunderdome Round 9 (03/05/09)
It's 50/50 now, this is much closer than I would have thought. We're in to the second tier of season 1 which means the match ups are going to get pretty strange.

Now it's 52/48 in SFA3's favour, this is gonna be close. Didn't Castlevania win by 2%?
