Galaga, the spiritual successor to the legendary space shooter Galaxian, pits you against formations of pesky enemy fighters that march across the screen, fire at you and periodically attempt to crash directly into your ship. Destroy one wave of aliens and they just keep coming back for more. This arcade classic is nearly as addictive today as it was in the arcades.

This Week’s Prize

In addition to the GameTap swag that the other nine winners get, the person with the top score on Monday will also win this week’s Grand Prize, an original Galaga arcade flyer!

All-Time Champions

The all-time high score for Galaga, as recorded by Twin Galaxies, is 15,999,990 points, recorded in 1989 by multiple record-holder Stephen Krogman. Want to beat his score? You'd better have a video camera (or an official referee) handy. Galaga's score counter rolls back to zero after 999,990 points (or 9,999,990 points if you're player 2.)

The all-time GameTap high score is 3,499,450 , recorded December 28, 2006 by Tommy041779.

Get practicing, folks, you have six days! Here are the official rules:

  1. Contestants will have from 7 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, August 4, 2008, to submit their scores to the leaderboard via the GameTap client.
  2. Only the top score per TapID will count toward the contest, with all other scores being thrown out.
  3. Only one TapID per household will be eligible.
Galaga is a premium game, but anybody can play for 99 cents
