Basics
Al Emmo and the Lost Dutchman's Mine is a point and click adventure intentionally designed to feel like the old Sierra classics of the same genre: Leisure Suit Larry, King's Quest, and so on. As Al, you'll guide this lovable loser through nine goofy acts as he searches for hidden Aztec gold to win the heart of his lady and -- maybe -- the respect of his parents. To begin, watch the Introduction and then the game starts.
Controls
You control Al using your mouse and a series of pointers. The default crosshair is for moving; just left click and Al will walk to its point. Double click to run. Click the right button to cycle through other actions: look, interact, and talk, then left click on a target to perform those moves. You can access these controls and your inventory by mousing to the top right corner of the screen, and visit the game menu by mousing to the top left corner.
Exploration and Puzzles
Point and click adventures are more about brains than brawn or speedy reflexes. As you explore Anozira and speak with its residents, the mystery of the game will unfold across nine lengthy acts. Each act will challenge you with puzzles and obstacles that you must overcome using your wits and any helpful items you find along the way. You may also get assistance from locals, if you're able to befriend any of the weirdoes who live here.
Tip: That's Right, It's Old School
Classic Sierra adventure games didn't have fancy menus like we do today, and Al Emmo's an homage to that game. Had enough adventuring and want to quit? You won't find "Exit" on any menu...instead you have to use the late-eighties standby CTRL+Q.
Tip: Adventure Logic
Oftentimes, complex puzzles can be solved by combining seemingly unrelated objects in your inventory to form useful, if peculiar, tools. If you're stumped, take another look at your possessions and try to think of ways they can work together.
