Getting Started
At the title screen, use the controller to select "Golf Play Mode", and press the start button. There's also an "Adventure Mode", but it's not recommended unless you're feeling especially daring or have a working knowledge of Japanese. Select either match play or stroke play, then choose whether you'll be playing alone or with a friend.
Course Options
In the Golf Play mode, the game begins on the bottom of the first hole of a golf course, littered with such outrageous hazards as land mines and lava, in addition to the usual sand traps and water hazards. On your turn, you'll be given a list of six options. The first, shot, lets you set up your golf swing. Course lets you view the entire course...use the controller to scroll through the course, and press the cancel button to return to the menu.
Menu Options
Green lets you examine the green, letting you prepare for the moment when the ball reaches it. The caddy gives you valuable advice about the course and offers strategies which could help lower your score. Finally, score lets you see your current standings, as well as those of the competing player.
Clubs
When you're ready to make your swing, choose the shot option on the top of the menu and press the select button. You'll be given a new menu of options. Club lets you select the club you'll use to hit the ball. Press the select button, then press up or down to pick your favorite club. Press select to make your choice, or the cancel button if you've changed your mind.
Special Shots
Face shows a picture of the ball in its current surroundings. Use the crosshair to determine where you'll strike the ball, then press the select button. The special shot option is available in either the adventure mode or match play mode; this lets you use special shots to reach the green faster and overcome obstacles on the course. Special shots use special energy, and you have a limited supply, so don't squander it!
Swing
When you're finished making your selections, move the cursor to "go" and press the select button. A line will appear next to your golfer, indicating the direction your ball will go when you strike it. Use the left or right directional keys to adjust this line, then press the select button. A power meter will appear on the right side of the screen; this determines the strength of your swing. Press the select button as the meter rises and falls to make your swing.
Rules
Standard golf rules apply in Battle Golfer Yui: the object is to reach the green at the end of each hole, and drop the ball in the cup waiting there. A point will be added to your score every time you hit the ball, and you'll be given an additional stroke penalty if the ball falls in unrecoverable hazards such as water or lava. In the game's Golf Play mode, the player with the lowest score after all the holes have been finished is the winner.
Tip: Don't Mean a Thing
Don't underestimate the strength of your character! These little ladies have big swings, and if you hit the ball too hard, it might end up at the bottom of a lake or in a nearby forest.
Tip: Look Ahead
Survey the land before you swing with the "course" option...that way, you'll know where the ball is headed before you hit it.
