Getting Started

You'll play Beach Life with the keyboard and mouse. At the title screen, use the mouse to move the cursor over one of the onscreen options, then click the left mouse button to select it. You can either choose Start to begin a new game, Sandbox to dip your toe into the water with a little practice, Load to resume a previously saved game, or Exit if you've had enough fun in the sun and need to take a break.

Missions

When you start the game, a map appears on the screen. Click one of the missions shown on the map, then click play to begin it. You'll be taken to a beautiful island, just waiting to be transformed into a world famous resort! Move the mouse to the edges of the screen or tap the arrow keys on the keyboard to scroll the screen and fully explore your tropical playground. You'll notice several different kinds of terrain, ranging from sandy beaches to grassy fields.

Buildings

The first order of business is to build tourist attractions. First click the Building button on the bottom left of the screen. There are three types of buildings available; click the tabs on the left side of the window to select a building type. Next, click the building you'd like to make, then the Building button. Finally, move the mouse to find a place on the island for the building. When the underside of the building is completely green, click the left mouse button to set it down.

Staff

Next, you'll need to hire staff members to maintain the resort. Click one of the snapshots on the bottom right hand corner of the screen to select a profession, then click the buttons in the window that appears to hire employees specialized in that field. Some of the employees you'll need include lifeguards, construction workers, and security guards. When you're finished, click the button on the bottom right of the window to return to the island.

Status Bar

The bar on the bottom of the screen displays information that's crucial to your success as a resort manager. You'll find your current financial status in the center of the bar, along with the current time, the arrival time of your next guests, and their satisfaction with the resort (shown as a string of stars). There's also a marquee on the bottom of the screen that keeps you updated on the needs of your guests. Pay careful attention to the messages in the marquee!

Goals

Money makes the world go around, and it's no different in the sunny world of Beach Life. You'll lose money every time you hire employees or build attractions, and gain it from satisfied customers. Keep the tourists happy to keep yourself in the black, and finish the goals of the current mission to advance to the next one. Win or lose, you can save your progress at any time by pressing the F4 key.

Tip: Slow Down

When you first start playing Beach Life, tap the [-] key on the keyboard to reduce the speed of the game. This will give you plenty of time to build the attractions you'll need to keep the tourists entertained.

Tip: One Thing Leads to Another

Be sure to cover all the bases when you build your resort. Attractions often complement each other, and it's not wise to build one without the other. For instance, things could get messy if you set up a soda stand without a bathroom nearby!
