Basics
Press start at the title screen and enter your name to get started. After a short cut scene, Prince Ali will appear on the shore of a small town near his kingdom. Use the controller to make Prince Ali walk in any direction. To make Ali run, tap twice in rapid succession. Press the jump button to jump. Hold jump down and Ali will crouch. While crouching, push the controller in any direction and Ali will crawl, allowing him to climb inside tunnels or other tight spaces.
Fighting
Prince Ali will encounter many enemies on his journey, but he's well prepared for them. Ali is armed with a knife. To use it, press the attack button. Hold the attack button down and Ali will enter a defensive stance. Release the button and Ali will swipe the knife in an arc. Ali can also attack while crouching, jumping, and running. The running attack is the most powerful of the three and will literally knock most of the prince's enemies off their feet!
Victory
While fighting enemies, a yellow life bar will appear on the top left hand corner of the screen. As the enemy is hit, its life bar will decrease in size. Once the bar is completely gone, the fiend will die, sometimes leaving behind food or other helpful items. To collect these items, stand over them and press the attack button.
Magic
Prince Ali can also use magic once he's found the elemental spirits trapped inside the game's dungeons. After an elemental spirit has been freed, they can be summoned by firing a blast of magic at an elemental source, such as fire or water. Press the magic button to fire a magic bolt at one of these objects. The elemental spirit will come to life and assist you. These spirits will drain your magic bar. To recover your magic, dispel the spirits by pressing magic, attack, and jump simultaneously.
Inventory
Any items you've collected can be used by pressing the start button. A small menu bar will appear, containing the following options: weapon, items, status, map or save. Highlight the option you wish to use and press the attack button to confirm your choice. To use an item or a weapon, highlight it and press the attack button. To save your progress in the game, highlight "yes" and press the attack button. To leave the menu screen, press the jump or start buttons.
Tip: Spinning Strike
Beyond Oasis offers a ton of special moves. For instance, hold down the attack button -- press up, right, down and left -- then release the attack button for an especially powerful spinning knife strike.
Tip: Saving
Save often! There's no penalty for doing it, aside from the few seconds it takes to save, and it could spare you a lot of heartache.
Tip: Special Weapons
Remember that special weapons will break with repeated use, so they should be reserved for boss battles and other difficult fights.
