Gameplay Modes
Blast Miner has two very different modes: Arcade is a blocks-fall-from-the-sky action game, while Puzzle mode is a set of cerebral cause-and-effect stages. In all of them, certain gameplay mechanics remain the same: touch a spark to a box of TNT or to a gasoline-soaked area, and it explodes. The explosion will send nearby objects -- including those precious lumps of gold -- flying.
Arcade Mode
Arcade Mode is an action puzzler that lasts as long as you can survive. Blocks will rise from the bottom of the screen and fall from the top; you're in control of the falling blocks with the arrow keys. Spin a falling block with the [A] or [D] keys, and if it's a gasoline can or acid, spill it with the [S] key. Press the Spacebar when you're ready for the next block.
Arcade Goals
Your goal in arcade mode is to blow the gold out of the rising set of blocks and up to the top of the screen, where it gets sucked into a machine for processing (which means points for you). Dropping a heavy weight onto a can of gasoline will result in a shower of sparks that detonate any nearby blocks of TNT or gasoline-soaked blocks. Use these explosions to send the gold sky-high and keep the rising blocks in check so you have room to work.
Puzzle Mode
Puzzle mode presents you with several stages of brain-straining challenges. With a price on every block you place, you must arrange explosives so that all of the gold blocks on the stage exit through the marked passage -- within budget! Controls are easy: click on the block you want to place, click where you want it to go, and right-click to erase. The challenge comes from figuring out what to place and where to put it!
Tip: Special Blocks
Acid is a blob of corrosive green fluid that comes from green crates. A drop of acid will eat its way through three blocks before it loses its potency. A time bomb has a number on it, and after the number counts down to zero, the bomb explodes as though it were TNT. In Puzzle mode, you can click on a time bomb to increment the counter.
Tip: Weight
Blast Miner has its own physics system, so don't think that you can just slap a box of TNT in the air and expect it to stay there long. Things fall if they don't have support, so while you might be able to string several boxes together, your creation might tip over before it does its intended task. Make sure everything has a couple of blocks to hold it up, if stability is important.
Tip: Scoop It Up
In Arcade mode, it's possible to knock a chunk of gold into the air, but not high enough to get it swept into the machinery for processing. If this happens, you can use a piece to scoop the gold piece out of the air and raise it into the machinery for easy points. Watch the demo on the title screen for several examples of this behavior.
