Basics
Press the start button to begin one- or two-player action (in two-player mode, opponents alternate taking turns). Your Star Destroyer will appear in the center of the screen. Use the controller to move your ship in any direction, and press the fire button to blast lasers ahead of you and to the rear.
Goals
Your mission is to clear each level of Bosconian space stations. On the radar at the right-hand side of the screen, these stations appear as green dots, and your Star Destroyer appears as a white dot. Track down the space stations and destroy them by firing into their open exposed cores. You can also dismantle a station, piece by piece, by firing at each of its six habitat bubbles.
Radar
Above the radar, you'll find a long colored bar with a message inside it. This is your condition indicator. When the indicator is green, enemy forces have not been alerted to your location, and you are relatively safe. Once enemy ships have spotted you, or you begin attacking a space station, the indicator turns yellow and Bosconian ships confront you.
Enemies
Occasionally, a formation of ships will appear, displayed on the radar with a red dot. Hunt down a formation and destroy all of its ships to receive a point bonus. Sometimes, you will encounter a yellow spy ship -- blast this stealthy vessel before it escapes or your condition indicator will turn red and a swarm of Bosconian fighters will follow!
Game Over
You begin each game with three Star Destroyers. If you are hit by bullets, or you collide with enemy fighters, Bosconian space stations, or debris like meteorites and exploding mines, you will lose one ship. Once you lose all of your ships to the Bosconian forces, the game is over. To continue from the last stage you reached, press the one- or two-player start buttons before time expires.
Tip: Missiles
In later stages of the game, space stations will arm themselves with deadly missiles which launch from their cores. When firing at the space stations’ most vulnerable points, approach with caution.
Tip: Formation Tactics
A Bosconian fighter formation will pursue you until the lead ship is destroyed so, when battling a ship formation, destroy every ship except the lead fighter. Then, pick off the leader with ease and collect the point bonus for destroying the entire formation.
Tip: Spy Ships
Destroy all spy ships as quickly as possible. If you run the risk of letting them escape, they will send enemies after you that will cause endless grief.
