Basics

Circus Empire is an exciting big top simulator that puts you in the oversize shoes of Peter (he doesn't really wear oversize shoes, clowns do that), a new circus manager who's inherited a very trouble entertainment extravaganza. Your job is to turn the place around and bring the circus to the top of its game through three challenging campaigns. Every aspect of circus operation is under your control, and it's up to you to bring those crows in! To begin, set up a profile and start a new campaign.

Controls

You control Circus Empire with the mouse and keyboard. The first campaign starts out slowly and guides you through most of the simple controls. Move the camera with WASD and the mouse. From the main game screen you can review objectives, add to your circus, adjust game speed and manage your budget. You can also press F5 at any time, to switch view modes and explore your circus in the first person. If you ever need help, just hit the F1 key or click the icon of Buddy the Dog.

Performers

Trapeze acts, clown shows, lion tamers, sword swallowers -- performers are the heart of a circus. Managing them is a key part of your job. Each performer's info screen is broken into four tabs which contain different controls and information. Performers are both animal and human, and while you start with a small circus staff, you must hire more to succeed. Moreover, it's not just money management and scheduling...you've got to deal with performers' personal issues and bad attitudes as well!

Shows

As manager, you must also create custom shows to wow audiences and bring in money for your circus. The Show Editor allows you to drag performers, tricks, animals and special events to your current show, customizing the experience for the audience. The more amazing and varied your shows are, the more revenue you'll bring in. Be careful, though: performers get tired, and their health and mood will suffer if you work them too hard. Experiment with the Show Editor to see what you can do.

Money

When Peter inherits the circus, things are looking pretty grim. Your most important job is always to bring in more revenue for the circus. Without money, you can't hire performers, buys new equipment or improve the circus, so it's key to success. Revenue is generated by audiences -- you set ticket and concession prices. Larger audiences are generally better than higher prices, and you need to keep in mind that people won't come to the circus at all if they think that it's too expensive.

Buildings

The Big Top is the most noticeable part of a circus, but there are a lot of tents and buildings necessary to run a successful one. Use the Building menu to place new structures -- everything from housing for your performers and pens for your animals to additional concession stands. All buildings must be connected by the sidewalk in order to function, so it's wise to lay down pavement first. Grow slowly: new buildings are expensive, and you don't get a refund from the bulldozer.

Tip: Be Tough

You must be willing to fire performers who are causing problems with their coworkers or failing to bring in crowds. The circus business is merciless, and you need to be too!

Tip: Step Right Up

If you have some spare money lying around, you can spend it on advertising to bring in bigger audiences.

Tip: Two for One

You can put on two full circus shows per day -- basically an afternoon and evening performance. Working both shows can be very hard on performers, though, so once you can afford the staff it's wise to rotate them.

Tip: The Wow Factor

As a general rule, you want your shows to be as amazing as possible to bring in the most money. Use lights, animals and multiple performers to maximize potential, and review the statistics at the end of a show to see how the performance went over.

Tip: Circus of Love

It's not all work and no play. During the tutorial campaign set in Europe, you can date female performers in the show. Getting married leads to significant bonuses down the line!
