Getting Started

Press the start button at the title screen to advance to the options screen. Press up and down on the controller to select from the three available options. START GAME begins the single player game, while VS. MODE lets you trade blows with a friend. Finally, OPTIONS allows you to adjust the difficulty and other settings. Press the Start button after highlighting an option to select it.

Characters

At the character select screen, press left and right on the controller to select your character. The highlighted fighter will appear in the center of the screen, with a brief description of that character written on a card at the bottom of the screen. When you've chosen your favorite fighter, press any of the action buttons to select that character. The fight will begin shortly after your selection has been made.

Rounds

In a one player game, you'll challenge the rest of the Clay Fighter cast to prove your strength and lay claim to the title “King of the Circus.” You'll face off against each character, one at a time, in a best of three rounds format. A round ends when a fighter has been knocked out by their opponent, or when time expires. If the player wins two rounds out of the three, they will advance to the next match, until reaching the mysterious “N. Boss.”

Movement

You move your fighter around the screen with the controller. Press left or right to walk in those directions, and press up to jump. Hold the controller down to duck under your opponent's attacks, and hold it in the opposite direction your character is facing to block incoming kicks and punches. For instance, if you're facing right, hold left on the controller when your rival throws a punch to block that attack.

Controls

Each Clay Fighter has three punches and three kicks, each of varying strengths. Light punches and kicks are fast but weak. Strong punches and kicks have greater impact, but take more time to perform. In addition to these standard attacks, every character also has a handful of special moves, allowing you to attack repeatedly or from a distance. Experiment with the controller and buttons to find them all!

Energy

Each player is given a limited supply of energy, shown at the top of the screen as a red bar. When the player's character is struck with attack, this energy bar shrinks. When the bar is completely drained, the fighter is knocked out, signalling the end of the round. If you lose two rounds in a fight, you can challenge your opponent to a re-match by pressing Start on the controller before the countdown timer expires.

Tip: Closing the Gap

Use projectiles like Blue Suede Goo's Sour Note to keep opponents at a safe distance. Most of the Clay Fighters have a projectile attack, so be sure to make good use of them!

Tip: Fight Hard, Live Well

Be aggressive! Don't wait for the enemy to bring the fight to you, because they'll give you more than you can handle. Keep the pressure on computer opponents, and they'll fall long before you will.
