Commandos 3: Destination Berlin © 2003 Eidos Interactive Limited.
This game is compatible with 64-bit Windows OS
Commandos 3: Destination Berlin is a squad-based strategy game played in real time. Your commandos, all masters of their own specialties, have to maneuver through ten missions across three campaigns, carrying out clandestine missions to help the Allied cause. Planning and forethought are crucial for success in a game of Commandos, which in addition to the single player storyline supports deathmatch multiplay. To begin a game, choose single player from the menu.
The first two missions are for training; they'll guide you through the basics of controlling your commandos and moving the camera. The game's controls are similar to those found in Commandos 2, but the interface and control set has been streamlined to make things easier for beginners. By the time you complete the tutorials, you'll have a firm grasp of the basics and understand the interface well enough to experiment on your own.
Each mission in the game presents you with a set of objectives which you have to complete in order to succeed. Much of your work is undercover or at least clandestine, so oftentimes a direct, guns-blazing approach isn't the right way to handle things. You'll be briefed on mission parameters prior to starting each level, and assessed on your performance once the mission is over. In many cases, mission objectives are interdependent and should be completed in a specific order.
You have six commandos at your disposal, each with unique skills: sniper, sapper, thief and so forth. Much of the game's strategy is based in how you choose to employ your troops, and how you coordinate their actions as a squad. You may not have access to all your commandos on every mission; the game assigns your team and equipment prior to starting a level. Try experimenting with each commando's equipment and skills to learn their capabilities and find a comfort zone.
Conceal bodies wherever possible. Enemies will sound the alarm if they find a corpse -- don't make it harder on yourself than it needs to be.
Crawling is the stealthiest form of movement -- slower, but you're less likely to be seen.
You can click on a guard or hold the Tab key to view enemy line of sight. The bright, opaque area indicates zones where you'll be seen no matter what; darker green indicates that skulking along in a crawl might keep you invisible.
You can lure low-ranking guards away from their posts and into your bullets by putting packs of cigarettes out. Smoking kills.
