Basics
Your goal for each level is to destroy all of the dark blue tiles. This is achieved by matching the pieces on top of each tile. Move pieces into lines of three or more, horizontally or vertically, to match them. To move a piece, click and drag it into an adjacent space that would create a match.
Resources
Those aren’t just pretty symbols you’re matching, they’re important resources! It takes loads of gold, materials, and food to build Rome from the ground up, one building at a time. In the first stage you’re collecting only gold, allowing you to build a sawmill. With the sawmill in place you can collect lumber materials to allow construction of a windmill. The windmill provides your first food resource.
Time Limit
The blue jug in the lower-right corner of the screen is your time limit. If you cannot clear all the marble plaques from a stage before it is depleted, you have to start over! However, once you complete a stage your remaining unused time is converted into gold, food, or materials -- whichever you need the most.
Tip: Citizens
After you’ve built certain buildings, you can find a citizen to work them for extra bonuses at the end of each round. Unfortunately, there are no hints in the game telling you how to unlock them! Here’s a start: once you’ve constructed your sawmill, make a match of five symbols in a row.
Tip: Bonuses
Some buildings unlock bonus tools. Matching these tools gives no resources, but will fill a bonus meter at the bottom of the screen. Activate the bonuses to clear out problem tiles or chains.
Tip: Break The Chain
Some tiles are chained up when a level begins. These tiles cannot be moved; you must move other tiles nearby to match the chained tile. Thankfully, doing so removes the chain, so removing the plaque underneath is less of a hassle.
