Main Menu
Welcome to Dancing With The Stars! From the main menu, select "New Game" to register your name and choose a dancer. If you¿ve already played Dancing with the Stars, select "Resume Game" to load your save file.
Options
On the "Options” menu, you can choose the game’s resolution, feature details, rendering mode, color depth, and volume levels. If you are experiencing performance problems, consider tweaking your settings.
Seeing Stars
After registering your name, it’s time to choose your dancer! Dancing With The Stars lets you play as real celebrity dancers from the television series, including Joey Fatone, Kym Johnson, Cheryl Burke, Billy Ray Cyrus, Karina Smirnoff and more. We personally recommend Mario Lopez, as this may be the closest you’ll ever get to Saved By the Bell: The Game.
Choreography
Your first challenge each week will be to choreograph your dance routine. Each routine consists of nine moves, including an opening, seven dance moves, and a closer. Plot a move by selecting a square on the dance floor, and then selecting which move to perform from the menu that pops up. Once a move has been plotted, additional squares will appear in spots that you can continue from.
Rhythm
After choreographing your routine, you will play three mini games to work on your rhythm, balance and showmanship. In the rhythm game, footprints will ascend from the bottom of the screen to the top. In time with the music, you must press the Up, Down, Left and Right Arrows on your keyboard to correspond with the move.
Balance
The next mini-game tests your balance. Here, books will be balanced on your chosen dancer’s head. Using the mouse cursor, move your dancer’s head left and right to keep a steady balance and prevent the books from falling to the floor.
Showmanship
The final mini-game tests your showmanship. Here, a number of footprints appear on the screen, and flash in a specific order. Using your mouse, try to click on the footprints in the same order just presented to you.
Dance, Dance, Dance
After your dance has been choreographed and your skills tested, it’s off to the dance floor! Sit back, relax, and watch the fruits of your effort. There is no interaction during the dance segment, your success depends entirely on your past choreography and training.
Scoring
At the end of your routine, judges Carrie Anne Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli will offer criticism and advice, and score your routine. That score is then totaled and shown on a leaderboard with all of your competition’s scores. That’s it for instructions, you’re on your own for week two!
Tip: Review Your Routines
Choose "Video Gallery” from the main menu to view examples of each type of dance you’ll be challenged with in the game, to get a feel for what the judges are looking for.
