Getting Started

At the title screen, highlight the Single Player option, then click the mouse button to begin the game. You can also select Player Info to view your statistics or Options to change the control scheme and graphic quality to your liking. While in Single Player mode, you'll find missions on the left side of the screen. Click a mission you'd like to attempt, then click the OK button on the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

Weapons

Before you begin your mission, you are presented with three different weapons. Click the red arrows next to the weapons to cycle between the choices available; depending on the mission, you'll be given your choice of everything from sniper rifles to flash grenades! Once you're happy with the selections you've made, click New Mission. A list of objectives will appear as the mission loads. Read this list carefully, then click Continue when it appears at the bottom of the screen.

Aiming

When the mission begins, you'll appear alongside your fellow soldiers in a dusty Somalian village. The mouse is used to view your surroundings: simply slide the mouse in any direction to look in that direction. You'll also use the mouse to aim at targets. Set the target in your crosshair (shown in the center of the screen as a small plus sign), then hold down the left mouse button to fire your weapon. Be careful not to fire at civilians, friendly soldiers, or their vehicles!

Movement

While not sitting in a vehicle, you can also walk through the Somalian countryside. Press any of the directional keys on the keyboard to walk. Press the up and down keys to walk forward and backward, and press left and right to strafe in those directions. Press the space bar to jump, and the X key to crouch, helping you dodge incoming fire. When you're ready to stand, press the delete key to return to your feet. Finally, press Shift to both enter and exit vehicles.

Health

You begin each mission with a limited amount of health, represented at the bottom left corner of the screen as a small green soldier. As you're struck by enemy fire, this figure changes color. When the icon turns red, death is just a single bullet away! If you have medipaks available, press the 9 key and then click the left mouse button to use one. Also, you can save your progress in the middle of a mission by pressing the F5 key, but you are only given two or three saves per mission.

Mission Complete

Completing a mission takes skill, bravery, and teamwork. Listen carefully to the other soldiers' advice and commands, and use the radar at the bottom right corner of the screen to locate enemy targets. If you are defeated while in the middle of a mission, you'll either have to restart it, or return to a save point. If you successfully complete a mission, you will be shown a list of battle statistics, and can move on to a new, more difficult battle.

Tip: Double Your Pleasure

Basic functions such as walking are usually set to two different keys. For instance, if you don't want to use the directional keys to walk, you can try the WASD key combination instead. This combination is preferred by many fans of first-person shooters, as it lets them easily reach the mouse with their right hands.

Tip: Blip On The Radar

Watch the radar on the bottom right hand corner of the screen! A ray of yellow light indicates that you're in the line of fire of an enemy soldier. Find the target by moving the mouse until the ray is pointing straight up, then fire to defend yourself from the threat.

Tip: Practice Makes Perfect

Repeat missions over and over until you become familiar with them, and know the location of every hostile soldier and vehicle. You'll improve your scores, and will be able to hold onto those valuable saves for when you'll really need them.
