Getting Started
After entering your character's name, you'll be faced with a handful of menu choices. It's strongly suggested that you tackle the tutorial mode in order to familiarize yourself with Die by the Sword's controls. After that, choose Quest to play the main story, Arena and Tournament to play in the fighting arena, and options to do things like remap your control buttons and change the graphic settings.
Movement
Move Enric around the game using the keyboard. [W], [Q], [E] and [S] are used to move him forward, left, right and back respectively. Double-tap any of these keys to make Enric move a bit faster. [A] and [D] will spin him left and right. Use [Caps Lock] to crouch, [Spacebar] to jump and [C] to climb up onto ledges in front of Enric.
Controls
On the numerical keypad, press [*] to perform an action such as throwing a switch or searching a body. [/] unsheathes and sheathes your sword. While holding your sword, press [1], [2] and [3] to block low, middle and high. Tap [4], [5] or [6] to attack low, middle and high. To check your current damage, press [+], and to check your radar, press [-].
VSIM Control
Turning on VSIM control from the options menu (press [Esc] at any time during the game) will give you free movement of your sword using the numerical keypad, the mouse, or a joystick. Simply unsheathe your sword using [/] and swing your weapon with the directional controls from your controller of choice.
Tip: Momentum
The power of your attacks is affected by the Enric's momentum. So try jumping or running toward an enemy as you swing to do greater damage.
Tip: Scouting
Hit [2] on the keyboard while your sword is sheathed to switch to "scout mode," where you can freely move the camera around to examine your surroundings. It's a great way to find hidden ledges and doorways.
