Basics
Ducati World Championship is an arcade-inspired motorcycle racing game that offers a wide selection of play modes and more than 30 tracks on which to race. You can select your own bike model, set up a team to play through a career, then modify and tweak the ride to suit your own style on the racetrack. The competition is fierce, but the glory is unmatched. To begin, select New User and follow the instructions onscreen to create your own character, from uniform to eye color.
Controls
You can play Ducati with just the keyboard, but a joystick or control pad work best. This game is semi-realistic, in that physics, terrain and various bike characteristics have a huge effect on gameplay and success in the race -- but it's not so realistic you need an engineering degree to play. After a few crashes, you'll have the controls down. For racers who like to do things a certain way, you can customize most of the controls (keyboard or otherwise) in the game options menu.
Gameplay Modes
Ducati offers four different play modes depending on how much time you're looking to invest. Quick Race is just that -- pick your bike, your track, the weather, and various other options, then hit the road. The Career Mode is the heart of the game, where you guide your character up the championship ladder, race in specific events and customize your bike. Championship pits you against Ducati champions of ages past, and the Capirex Challenge is the ultimate freestyle trick competition.
Realism and Racing
In most game modes, you have the option to choose the level of realism during a race. Arcade mode is most forgiving, reducing accident damage and generally making things easier. Simulation is the most punishing model, with realistic bike damage, less forgiving controls and harsher physics. You can set the strictness of Simulation from 0 (nearly Arcade) to 100 (ultra-real). There is also a Neutral mode, a balance between Simulation and Arcade. You can change modes any time between races.
Bike Customization
One of the best features of Ducati World Championship is the ability to tweak and customize your bike, not only for coolness, but to suit the way you like to race. There are seven bike characteristics you can change: gears, tires, brakes, clutch, suspension, chassis and steering angle. Changes to each will be reflected in how your bike accelerates and corners, how quickly it can stop, and how well in maneuvers in various situations. Experiment with everything to customize the perfect bike!
Tip: Adrena-redline
As you pass other racers and perform well on your circuits, watch the Quality Points gauge. When it's full you can unleash a burst of adrenaline that means extra speed, tighter cornering and precious seconds off your time.
Tip: Watch that Health
The top and bottom tabs to the left of the speedometer readout keep you apprised of the rider's and bike's health, respectively. A damaged bike won't perform as well, and an injured rider...you can probably guess.
Tip: Sit up Straight
A rider's posture in the seat can have a major effect on the bike's performance. Use the arrow keys to cycle between aerodynamic, normal and relaxed posture. The more aerodynamic your posture, the faster you'll go -- at the expense of some cornering control.
Tip: Braking Records
Motorcycles have two independent brake systems, one for the front and one for the back. The front wheel brake offers more control when slowing, but you'll lose speed on corners; the rear has the opposite effect. If you just need to stop, use them both at the same time.
