Basics

Earthworm Jim 3D is -- you guessed it -- a 3D action game in which you must guide Jim through his own incredibly weird brain, collecting his lost marbles. On the way you'll battle the minions of the evil Psycrow, one of Jim's many enemies. Jim's no ordinary worm, though. He's got the atomic suit, laser guns, a deadly head whip and plenty of courage for someone with no spine. Still, he'll need your help to run, dodge, roll, jump and blast his way through his own messed-up wormy brain.

Controls

The first section of the game includes a tutorial that walks you through some of Jim's more complicated moves, but the truth is none of the controls are that hard to get the hang of. Move, jump, fire and crouch are your most important keys, and you can remap all of them however you like in the game's options menu. There are no enemies in the first several scenes, so take some time to get used to the controls and camera before heading on. You won't get another chance!

Combat

Psycrow has infiltrated Jim's mind and is trying to collect his worst thoughts to use as weapons. Since evil masterminds never travel alone, you'll encounter many dangerous baddies on your trip (not to mention some really bizarre opponents that lurk in Jim's subconscious). Jim's default atomic laser gun is a strong weapon and works fine to destroy most enemies, but keep your eyes open for opportunities to pick up better stuff. And watch all enemies for weak spots -- some have a trick to them.

Navigation

Much like a slimy, soil-eating Prince of Persia, Jim is an incredible acrobat. Much of the game is spent working through the complicated jungle gym that is his mind, so you'll need to get comfortable with the movement controls. Each scene contains some puzzle or path that you must follow, collecting lost marbles as you go. Watch for clues in the environment that give away solutions to the more complicated puzzles, and remember that sometimes a brute force approach works when finesse fails.

Tip: Snott

Snott is Earthworm Jim's best booger buddy, and he's here to help. Whenever you see him oozing around, run right up to him.

Tip: You Must Whip It

Jim's head-whip doesn't just make him smooth with the ladies -- it's useful for lots of things: getting weapons out of vending machines, frightening lazy animals, smacking enemies and helicoptering through the air.

Tip: Blasting Crates

Take a shot at anything that looks crate-ish, or even a little out of place. They often conceal lost marbles or other special items.

Tip: Crouch Roll

When crouched, use the direction keys to roll around. This will help you avoid enemy attacks.
