Launching the Game
Fallout Tactics presents you with several options from the title screen. "Intro” will replay the introductory movie, well worth watching to get you up to speed. "Single Player” is where you access the game's Tutorials, launch a new campaign, or load an existing save file. "Options” lets you edit settings on the display, sound, and the game itself, including language and blood filters, a toggle between real-time and turn-based, and more. "Credits” shows you the team responsible for the game, and "Exit” returns to GameTap. "Multiplayer” is selectable, but unfortunately, is no longer supported.
Introduction
Welcome to post-nuclear Chicago! Nuclear fallout has turned the windy city into an inhospitable deathtrap, populated by mutated creatures and deranged Raiders, among other ruffians. It is a unique city in the series, but veterans of the Fallout RPGs should feel right at home.
About Tactics Gameplay
Unlike traditional Fallout titles, Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel focuses on tactical combat, meaning players will command a small squadron through several self-contained missions. You’ll have to think three steps ahead of the enemy and plan your moves very carefully, utilizing the tools and resources available to you to defeat the enemy and advance to the next scenario.
Getting Started: Tutorials
Whether you’re new to tactical combat or it’s your favorite genre, we highly recommend taking advantage of the game’s tutorial mode to familiarize yourself with Fallout Tactics' control scheme. There are four tutorials in total, "Basic,” "Ambush,” "Stealth” and "Sniper.” After successfully completing all four, you should have more than enough intelligence to go out and start your first real mission!
Tip: Stealth
Charging out with guns blazing is a fine way to get your squad killed and end a mission prematurely. Your best weapon in Fallout: Tactics is catching the enemy by surprise. Be sure that your squad is using the "Stealth” skill with just about every move. Don’t forget to crouch or go prone for an easy Stealth boost – not to mention increased firepower accuracy!
