Getting Started
Several options are available to you at the title screen, including Open Play, Skins, Tournament, Challenge, Golf Mode, and Practice. Open Play is a standard ten-frame game of bowling, while Golf Mode challenges the player to take out lanes packed with pins with as few throws as possible. Use the mouse to move the cursor over one of the available options, then click the left mouse button to select it.
Gameplay Options
After selecting a gameplay mode, select your bowler and lane. First click Add Bowler on the character select screen. Press the up and down arrow keys to select one of the available bowlers, then press the Enter key. Click Enter Name, type a name for your bowler, and press the Enter key. Click Done, then Play Game to advance to the lane select screen. Press the left and right arrow keys to choose between the available lanes, then press Enter to proceed to the game.
Throw Setup
Regardless of which mode you select, the basics of bowling remain the same. First, press the left and right arrow keys to position the bowler. Press up and down to adjust the spin of the ball, shown in the bottom right hand corner as a percentage. Next, tap the backspace key to get a closer view of the pins, then press the left and right arrows to adjust your aim. Your aim is shown as a red line on the lane.
Throwing the Ball
When you're ready to throw the ball, just press the enter key. Two meters will appear on the bottom of the screen. The first bar represents the power of your throw; tap the enter key as it fills to decide the strength of your throw. The second bar represents the accuracy of your throw. Tap the enter key just as the bar fills to the green line for a cleaner, more precise throw. If the bar is in the red zone when you tap the enter key, your ball will veer off course!
Scoring
The game ends after you've bowled ten frames in Open Play mode, or when you have finished all the challenges offered in Golf or Challenge mode. Once the game is over, you'll be returned to the title screen where you can begin another game or create a different player. If you're done bowling, just move the cursor over the Exit option in the title screen and click the left mouse button to hang up your shoes for the day.
Tip: Spin City
Sometimes a straight throw isn't enough -- you'll need to put a little spin on the ball if you want to take out those stray pins. At the same time, putting too much spin on the ball will make it impossible to control.
Tip: Practice Makes Perfect
Get in plenty of practice before you compete against friends. The timing for throws is very tricky, and it'll take several attempts before you get it right.
