Basics
As with many early space shooters, your goal is simple: fire like crazy and avoid getting hit! Your ship is at the bottom of the screen -- use the joystick or direction keys to move left or right, and press the action button to fire at the evil Galaxians. They will try to destroy your ship in two ways: with sheer firepower or through dive-bombing runs. They may even use a combination of both! Fire and dodge to eliminate all enemies and continue to the next level.
Scoring
The more Galaxian attackers you destroy, the higher your point total. Alien ships progress in value depending upon their color, with red having the greatest point value, then green and then blue. Destroy an enemy while it’s dive-bombing and its point value doubles.
Tip: Cornered
Galaxian's enemies may not seem very smart…until you find your ship boxed into a corner with no hope of escape. Always be aware of your location, and stay away from the far right and far left as much as possible.
Tip: Slow 'Em Down
There is a distinct advantage to destroying a full column of aliens on the left or right side of the screen: squads of aliens can't speed up until the edge of their group reaches the side of the screen and they switch direction. So as you pick off the end enemies and make the group narrower, they will take longer to gain speed.
