Getting Started
Press the one player start button at the title screen to begin the game. After a brief tutorial, you'll be taken to the character select screen. Press left and right on the controller to highlight one of the available fighters, then tap an attack button to lock in your choice. Next, you'll be asked to select which portion of your health bar offers special enhancements. Press left and right to make that choice, then press any attack button to proceed to your first fight.
Movement
Press left and right on the controller when the fight begins to walk in either direction. Tap left twice quickly to retreat from your opponent, and right twice quickly to race toward them. Press away from your opponent when an attack comes your way to block it; pressing away at the exact moment the attack hits you gives you a small “Just Defended” health bonus. Finally, press down to duck, and tap up to leap into the air.
Controls
Each character has four basic attacks: press the light kick, heavy kick, light punch, and heavy punch buttons to trigger these attacks. These buttons can also be used to activate special moves called “methods of mayhem.” Just enter a controller motion (like down, down-right, and right) and press one of the attack buttons for a strike that's as dazzling as it is dangerous!
Meters
There are three meters you need to know in Garou. The first is your health bar, shown at the top of the screen. This illustrates how much damage you can take before you're knocked out. Inside it is a glowing second meter, called the T.O.P. gauge. When your energy falls inside the meter, your health slowly replenishes, giving you a fighting chance in a tough battle. Finally, the super meter on the bottom of the screen builds as you land blows, and allows you to perform powerful super moves.
Matches
The fights in Garou: Mark of the Wolves are in a best of three round format. Each fighter gets a full health bar at the start of a round. The first person to drain the opponent's health bar is declared the winner of that round. Win two rounds in a fight and you'll advance to a new, more difficult opponent. If you lose, you can always get back into the action by pressing the one player start button at the continue screen before the timer expires.
Tip: From T.O.P. to Bottom
A good place to put your T.O.P. gauge is at the end of your health bar. It will give you a buffer against being knocked out in a close or losing battle.
Tip: Make the Grade
You're graded on your performance at the end of each round. To turn those Cs into As, finish off your opponents as quickly as possible, taking as little damage as possible.
Tip: The Best Defense
Just Defended is the key to victory in more difficult fights. Block attacks just as they hit you to build your health bar and frustrate the opponent!
