Basics

Players take control of Arthur, a brave knight whose village and beloved Princess Prin Prin have been destroyed by the forces of darkness. Arthur's task is to journey through five stages into the underworld to put things right again.

Controls

Arthur can run left and right, climb ladders, and leap over enemies. In many areas of the game, you'll need to jump over pits and other hazards to proceed. Some sections of the game feature moving platforms or other unique obstacles which require quick reactions in spite of constant enemy attacks.

Powerups

The armies of evil are powerful, but Arthur isn't helpless. He begins his journey with an endless supply of lances which he can throw at foes. There are other weapons to be acquired as well, including daggers, axes and swords. Once you collect a weapon, you will keep it even after you die. Arthur also has the ability to throw weapons straight up and to use a secondary power for each piece of his arsenal.

Armor

Arthur begins his adventure with a suit of armor, but it's awfuly flimsy stuff -- it will only protect him from a single enemy attack before falling to pieces. Once your armor is gone, Arthur will have to face his foes wearing nothing but his boxers. Even if he doesn't die of embarrassment in this condition, a single enemy attack will do him in!

Enemies

At the end of each stage is a boss who must be defeated before you can advance to the next area. Bosses are extremely powerful and can absorb many attacks, adding an extra level of challenge to the end of each stage. Watch out for powerful "normal" enemies, too, like the deadly Red Arimer. Furthermore, each area of the game is timed -- take too long and you'll lose a life. Once you defeat the final boss, you'll find your journey is only halfway finished!

Tip: Monster-In-A-Box

That treasure chest looks awfully tempting, doesn't it? Unfortunately, you'll find that most treasure chests contain nothing but an evil magician who will zap you for opening the lid. If you must open a chest, be prepared to dodge.

Tip: Extra Armor

Even if you lose your armor, you might luck out and find a replacement suit. But don't count on it -- they're hard to come by. Sometimes you will discover the golden Magic Armor. While this doesn't offer any additional protection, it allows you to cast powerful magic spells by holding down the attack button!

Tip: Do-Overs

Once you defeat the boss of level five, the quest isn't over yet. To truly win the game, you must travel back through the entire game to reach level five again, where Prin Prin will grant you the magic power you need to defeat the game's true mastermind.
