Basics
You are Vivien, created from the astral body of Arswaargh, the Bellarion god of fire. You have been sent to a new world to find a countermeasure to stop Mortagorn’s clerics from dominating and destroying the world with their new superweapons. Unfortunately, your arrival on this new world has disrupted the divine balance, and now your first goal is to regain your lost power!
Gameplay
Gods expects you to go out of your way to fill side quests and fight monsters. You can win by trading your way to massive wealth, and you can win by fighting every monster you come across until your entire party is made of unstoppable juggernauts. But if you go from one plot point directly to the next for the whole game, you’ll find yourself underpowered -- you might want to set the game difficulty to “Easy” if this is your style.
Combat
Combat is turn-based; characters with high Dexterity move first. All characters have a pool of Action Points, starting with 4 and building as they gain levels. Each action -- movement, attacks, spellcasting and so on -- consumes a number of these points. Characters regain 3 Action Points whenever they take a round to Defend and gather their wits.
Jobs
Characters gain expertise in the Warrior, Mage, Alchemist, and Thief jobs separately. To gain job levels in these areas, you must find the proper trainer. The Warrior and Mage trainers will demand money for their training, but the Alchemist trainer will ask for you to retrieve important alchemical components instead.
Inventory
Check a character’s inventory often. Logically enough, it’s harder to carry six double-headed axes than it is to carry six daggers, and the space they take in your characters’ bags reflect this. If you need to drop something to save space, click and drag it outside the inventory window. If you’re given something and your bag is full, the person giving you the item will drop it on the ground instead. Look for it around your feet after you’ve made room.
Food
Characters must eat and drink to remain healthy. Without food and water, your combat statistics will suffer until your characters are properly fed. Bread, fish, meat, and fruit are fine ways to keep your belly full, and when it comes to portable potables, nothing beats a good waterskin. Make sure to take rations with you on long journeys.
Camp
If your characters get hurt and tired, let them rest! Break for camp with the Camp button in the lower-right corner of the screen. Your characters will restore their health and mana while they rest, but they’ll want dinner before they sleep, so you can’t camp if your party has gone hungry for a while.
Tip: Formation
The formation button in the lower-left corner of the screen is used to maintain your party’s combat formation. Heavy hitters and well-armored characters should go in the front, protecting the weak mages and archers you keep in the back.
Tip: Quest Log
Stuck? Not sure where to go? Click the Quest Log button in the lower-left corner of the screen to bring up your Quest Log. This handy journal keeps track of all the half-completed adventures you’ve begun and is a good way to keep yourself on track.
