Magic
Collect blue potions -- usually by pummeling the little blue gnomes you see -- to activate your magic. Each character has a certain maximum amount of magic they can collect: Gilius three levels, Ax-Battler four and Tyris six. When you're in a bind, press the magic button to cast a spell. This uses up all the potions you've collected, but will hit every enemy onscreen and do massive damage.
Characters
First things first, you'll need to choose which character you'll take on this adventure. Ax-Battler (who, for some reason, uses a sword) is fairly balanced between power, speed, and magic. Tyris, filling the archetypical female-in-a-video-game role, is fast and good with magic, but lacks stopping power with her sword. Gilius the dwarf is slow and tough, but his magic is weak.
Controls
Move with the directional keys and swing your weapon with the attack button. Once you've hit an enemy, keep pressing the attack button to keep pounding away with a combo attack. To jump onto ledges, press the jump button. You can tackle foes by pressing in one direction quickly to run, then pressing attack when you get close to your enemy.
Tip: Mounts
If you see an enemy riding on a monster, knock the enemy off and claim its ride as your own for a little extra attack power.
Tip: Flanking
Enemies will almost never come to you head-on; they'll approach from above or below where you can't hit them until they get very close. It's a good strategy for you to adopt as well.
