Title Screen
Your journey begins at the Gothic 3 title screen! "New Game” will start a new quest, "Load Game” will let you load a previous save, "Options” will let you set the language, difficulty, resolution, brightness and specific performance settings, "Credits” will show you the fine folks responsible for Gothic 3’s development, and "Quit Game” will return you to GameTap.
Basics
Move your character with either the arrow keys or the [W] [A] [S] [D] combination. Use the number keys ([1] through [0]) to equip or use an item in the quick slot bar on the bottom of the screen. Jump with [Alt], run by holding [Shift], sneak with [Ctrl], fight with the mouse buttons, and access your inventory with [I]. Consult the in-game help menu or the Gothic 3 instruction manual for more detailed instructions.
About Spells
Throughout the course of the game, the Nameless Hero will learn spells by visiting the altars of the gods. The types of spells vary greatly, from casting a light in dark places to increasing or decreasing stats, putting enemies to sleep, or even summoning a meteor to damage a target. Manage your Spellbook by pressing [B], and drag spells into your quick slot bar to equip them for use.
Tip: Time Your Attacks
While it may be tempting to click rapidly on an enemy while in combat, you are best served in Gothic 3 by timing your attacks carefully and methodically. Certain enemies are more susceptible to rapid, weak attacks, while others may need to be caught off guard with a quick block followed by a slow, powerful strike. Fight wisely, experiment with the weaker enemies, and find attack combos that work best for you.
