Basics
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin is a third-person action stealth game in which you take on various assassination missions as Agent 47, the mysterious bald killer with the barcode on his head. Trying to track down a missing priest, 47 turns to his old employer, the Agency...his handlers there are willing to help, but only if he completes a few missions for them first. Seek out your targets and eliminate them in whatever way seems best, but watch your back -- someone's after you this time.
Missions
You'll play through more than 20 unique and highly challenging missions around the world. Unraveling the mystery of the priest's disappearance is just the beginning; 47 is about to get in way over his bald head. All missions have the same general premise: you must locate and eliminate a key target, preferably with as little muss or fuss as possible. Of course, infiltration isn't always easy, and your marks are generally very well guarded. How you complete missions is up to you.
Controls
Since Agent 47 has been working as a gardener in Sicily for the last few years, his friends at the Agency decide that he might be a little rusty and need to brush up on some of his hitman-ing skills. This "refresher course" serves as the basis of the game's tutorial, which will introduce you to controls and basic play styles. If you've played other third person games, this one should come naturally; you can also reset the keys and mouse controls in the game's options menu.
Equipment
47 comes equipped with some basic and beloved weapons, such as a knife and garrote for close-range mayhem and basic pistol for popping enemies from afar. You can (and should) also make a point to collect other weapons from fallen foes. Complete the mission with these and 47 will take them back to his hideout in Sicily, where you can choose to equip yourself with them again in future missions. 47 has limited inventory space, and some larger weapons like assault rifles can't be concealed.
Gameplay
Though stealthy assassination is theoretically the best way to play, there's nothing stopping you from going in the front door with all guns blasting. Like all the Hitman games, Silent Assassin encourages you to invent your own unique solutions to gameplay challenges. There is no "wrong" way to deal with a problem, and there may be several "right" ones. Just remember that each mission does have a specific objective, so reaching your primary target should always take priority.
Tip: First Person with 47
Though Hitman 2 is by default a third person game, you can switch to a first person view if you're more comfortable with that style of shooter.
Tip: Difficulty Levels
Hitman 2 offers three difficulty levels. Normal is best for newcomers and people who just want to play as they choose; Expert and Professional are for those who are looking for real challenges and more emphasis on stealth and care. Professional is especially difficult, requiring lots of guile and planning to master.
Tip: Saving
On Normal difficulty, you're allowed to save seven times during the course of a mission. Expert allows two saves, and Professional allows none. Missions can take more than an hour, so the ability to save is great for beginners.
Tip: Steady On
47 aims much more effectively from a crouched or prone position, especially with sniper rifles. Accuracy of weapons is seriously affected by your stance and movement.
