Basics
There are six colors of pieces in Ingenious: red, yellow, blue, green, orange, and purple. By placing colored pieces on the board adjacent to pieces of the same color, you score points in that color based on how many pieces of the same color connect in a straight line from the piece you put down. Select the piece you want to place from your board at the bottom of the screen with the mouse, right-click to rotate it, and click to place it on the board.
Scoring
When you place a piece on the board, you score points. Both sides of the piece will score points in their color depending on how many other pieces of the same color form a straight line from the piece. Balancing your scoring is important -- when the board is full, whoever has the fewest points in his lowest color loses!
Tip: Lock Out
Since winning is based only on the color you have the lowest score in, don’t miss a chance to lock your opponent out from a color entirely! For instance, if your opponent has only three points in purple, surround all the purple pieces on the board with other colors. Your opponent won’t be able to score any points to increase his lowest color, and your victory is assured.
Tip: Switch Pieces
If you don’t have any pieces of the color you have the lowest score in, the game will ask you after each turn whether you want to simply draw new pieces to fill in the ones you’ve placed on the board or to discard all your pieces and draw a new hand.
Tip: Free Turn
If you score eighteen points in a single color, you get a free turn.
