The piece you're working on is shown on the right side of the screen. Mouse over it to view it through a magnifying lens that will show you where each gem you cut will go and give you a guide on where to focus. In the lower-right corner is a scroll that will tell you exactly how many gems of each size and color you will need to complete the piece.
Tip: Look at the Size of That Rock!
Work on the largest gems you'll need first. The initial setup of the board tends to have large fields of gems in the same color to get you started. You don't want to strain to make a match of six or nine gems after squares on the board start running out!
Tip: A Series of Cubes
Remember that the game pieces are cubical in shape. Turning a piece in the same direction twice may reveal a gem that you couldn't see by simply mousing over the piece.
Basics
The first several levels of the Story mode will walk you through a tutorial. Use your mouse to point at pieces on the game board. Point at the edges to display the gems on the other side of the piece, and click to flip the piece onto that side. If the gem is adjacent to two or more gems of the same color, they will be cut into a stone and added to that level's workpiece. When the piece is completed, you move on to the next level.
Powerups
If you complete gems that aren't needed for the piece you're working on, they will go toward filling a powerup meter at the bottom of the screen. These powerups will shuffle the board, remove troublesome pieces you can't clear, and (perhaps most importantly) put extra gems on the board to work with. Activating any one of these powerups completely drains the meter, so use them wisely!
Tip: Gem Count
Remember, you need nine gems to make a giant stone, six for a large stone, four for a medium stone, and only three for a small stone. Any excess will be turned into the largest stone you need -- for instance, if you match eleven gems but only need a large stone, you'll make one large stone, one medium stone, and one small stone. If you don't need any medium stones, you'll make one large stone and five small stones instead.
