Basics

To become the Karate Champ, you will need to win twelve different tournaments against computer opponents while also tackling a number of challenging bonus rounds. To achieve a victory, you will need to prevail in two out of three rounds.

Scoring

Playing Karate Champ is deceptively simple. Just dodge your opponent's strikes and retaliate with an attack of your own. Even if you land a punch or a kick, not every successful strike will win you a precious point. You will need at least two full points in each round to win the tournament. In Karate Champ, learning which moves earn you the highest scores and how to land them is what separates the men from the boys.

Goals

Don't stay on the defensive too long. Whoever has the most points when time expires will be handed the win. Bonus rounds between tournaments will keep things fresh and your reflexes sharp. See how many boards you can break with a single hit. Avoid flying projectiles to rack up a high score. Or even stop a charging bull dead in his tracks with a single strike. That's hardcore, baby.

Tip: Back Attack

If you can get behind your opponent, it will very difficult for him to block your attacks.

Tip: Power Attack

Focus on more powerful moves so you can get a full point for knockdowns.

Tip: Controls

It's tough to memorize what controller combinations result in specific moves. Generally, pressing up on the right control stick will result in a hit high on your opponent's body. Pressing right on that control stick will result in a hit to the torso. Pressing down results in a low kick or foot sweep.
