Knights of the Round Table

Up to three people can play Knights of the Round together. Each player begins by selecting their favorite warrior, and everyone's character must be different. You may choose from three brave fighters: Arthur, Lancelot and Perceval, each of whom has different skills and attributes.

Footwork Impeccable

Each character has the same basic set of skills. The knights can move in eight directions, but only you may only fight facing forward and behind; enemies who are not aligned on a horizontal line with your characters cannot be hit and cannot touch you. Enemies will attack from all sides, and will frequently gang up on you, trying to strike you from behind as you battle another foe.

Busy Life in Camelot

While Knights of Round plays much like many other side-scrolling brawlers of its era, it also has a touch of roleplaying elements. Your characters begin at Level 1, but defeating enemies and collecting items earns experience points. As you level up, you grow in power and can withstand stronger foes -- which means you're not just gunning for a high score in Knights of the Round, you're working to increase your life expectancy.

Tough and Able

Your characters have two basic abilities, each controlled with a separate button: Attack and Jump. Jumping is a good way to evade enemies or to approach them without being injured as you move closer; attacking causes your character to wield his weapon. Press both buttons simultaneously will cause your knight to perform a special attack that knocks away all enemies in exchange for a portion of your life energy.

Tip: Dance Whene'er We're Able

Knights are valiant, noble and -- most importantly -- know the value of loyalty. Don't be a loner; watch your friends' backs. Arthur and his companions are powerful warriors, but when they start slashing away at bad guys they leave their backs unprotected. Keep an eye on your fellow warrior to prevent enemies from sneaking in and landing an unfair blow from behind in order to improve your odds of survival.

Tip: Shows Are Formidable

While your first impulse when playing a cooperative game might be to collect as many experience points for yourself as possible, it's best to share fairly with your companions. If all players level up together, they'll fight more effectively as a team.

Tip: Quite Indefatigable

If you can knock an enemy off his horse, you can hop on by pressing the jump button. While on horseback, you must press forward twice to leap; the jump button instead causes your steed to change directions. In addition to your standard attack, you can perform an additional attack while on horseback by pressing forward and attack at once. A special attack causes your horse to dash off, flattening anything in its path -- but once it does, it's gone.

Tip: We Dine Well Here In Camelot

While collecting a treasure chest nets you decent amounts of experience, you can earn even more by attacking the chest and causing its contents to spill out -- you can earn up to 300 points extra this way per chest. You'll also earn extra experience by killing multiple enemies of the same type consecutively.
