Moves 1
Use the directional keys to move Hipopo around. Press fire to hurl Hipopo’s powerful water globes, which will freeze enemies stiff. Holding down the fire key increases the size of the water globe, doing more damage. A frozen enemy is helpless -- just run into one to knock him off the screen. Opponents thaw out after a short period, however, so it’s wise to deal with them right away.
Moves 2
The jump key allows you access to greater heights. The longer you keep the jump button pressed, the higher Hipopo will leap when you release it. You can also jump on frozen enemies to knock them away. If Hipopo touches unfrozen monsters or anything dangerous in the terrain, such as spikes or lava, he'll lose a life.
Powerups
Grab powerups to increase Hipopo’s abilities. These are often scattered around the levels, but some also appear when you defeat enemies. Also be sure to grab any food treats left behind after you take out a monster -- these increase your score.
Bosses
At the end of each stage you’ll face a boss monster. Use your Water Magic to defeat the boss and free one of your friends from the Fire Devil’s clutches. Hipopo’s adventure grows progressively more difficult as you proceed, so be ready for some real challenge by the end of the game.
Tip: Combos
Kicking a frozen foe into a bunch of his buddies results in a huge number of points and a gratifying chain of bad guys biting the dust.
Tip: Power Up
Remember that the powers you pick up are cumulative, so collect as many as you find!
Tip: Alternate Uses
Use the water that bursts from your bubbles to get those hard-to-reach powerups. You can also use the water to float across pits or other obstacles.
Tip: Bosses
All bosses have a pattern as well as a weak point. Finding both of these is essential to beating them.

Keep your eyes peeled for a rare extra life!
