Getting Started
From the main menu, you will have a variety of options to choose from. Single Player will let you race in single events, Championship Mode will be 16 race events, and Multiplayer will allow you to race others online. Once you pick your race, you will choose to race with either an MX motorcycle or an ATV. The MX is light and maneuverable, but the ATVs are more stable. By default, Spacebar is the accelerator, the arrow keys control movement, and Z is brake. These controls can be configured in the Options Menu.
Single Player Modes
From the Single Player menu, you will be able to choose Racing, Freestyle, or Free Ride. Later in the game, there will be Challenges to unlock as well. In Racing mode, speed is the name of the game. There are several different modes and track styles, but the goal is always to cross the finish line first. You can perform tricks during your races for points, but they arenâ¿¿t necessary. In Freestyle mode, perform as stunts to really rack up points. To perform a stunt, hit either of the two stunt buttons (LCtrl and X) plus a direction. You can also add the stunt modifier button (LShift), or both stunt buttons together, or all three to increase your pool of tricks. In Free Ride, just pick a track and go practice.
Championship
There are two championship modes, Nationals and SX. In Nationals mode, youâ¿¿re racing on large outdoor tracks, in SX, youâ¿¿re on smaller stadium tracks. In both modes, the basics are the same. There are 16 tracks, and your goal is to win as many races as possible to earn the highest standing at the end of it all. You can choose to practice before the official races to learn the track and get a better gate placement. As with Single Player Racing, tricks are purely optional.
Store
The store is where you spend all the hard-earned points you gained through performing tricks. You can purchase new vehicles, tricks, equipment, clothes, and more. The best way to rack up the points you need quickly is to perform in the Freestyle events. After a few events, youâ¿¿ll have enough points to buy whatever you may want.
Map Editor
MX vs ATV Unleashed includes a very comprehensive map editor that allows you to create your own tracks and to import tracks that you find online. When making your tracks, add an activity if you want your track to be raceable, make sure you add a start and a finish, test your track to make sure it works, and export your track in order to make it show up in your game. When you export a track, save it to the default folder to be able to use it.
Tip: Tricks
When performing tricks, there are a few things you want to keep in mind. First, the more times you perform a given trick, the fewer points will be awarded. So keep it fresh and use a wide variety of tricks in your runs. Second, you get a multiplier for each additional trick you perform while in the air, so doing three quick tricks will earn you more points than holding one trick for a long time. You may also want to experiment to see which tricks can be pulled off the fastest. Lastly, make sure you pull out of the trick and get straightened out before landing, or youâ¿¿ll wipeout and lose all the points from that jump.
