Basics
Mahjongg Investigations: Under Suspicion combines tile-matching with logical thinking. Players investigate crime scenes in order to dig up a series of clues that ultimately lead to the culprit. Arresting the correct suspect advances players up the department’s ranks, and ultimately bring them closer to bringing mob boss Don Diamante to justice.
Crime Scenes
Most of your time in Mahjongg Investigations: Under Suspicion will be spent analyzing various crime scenes. Crime scenes are represented by a series of mahjongg-style tiles laid out on the screen. These tiles are either generic items such as street signs and cigarette butts, or special tiles that grant you new information or abilities. Simply click on any tile to enter it into your evidence bag, and click on a matching tile to clear it from the screen. Note that you may only click on a tile that is not surrounded on both the left and right sides by other tiles.
Special Tiles
Thumbnails give you specific clues on current case, magnifying glasses give you more info on a specific subject, alibis clear a suspect off of your list, handcuffs will identify a new suspect, and the X-ray image lets you use scientific tools to reveal special tiles on the board. Occasionally a clue will have to be sent to the lab for analysis – if this happens, you will eventually receive a call with the information. Click on the telephone icon to answer the call.
Case File
Matching tiles is only the first step in nailing the perp, you're going to have to organize the information you obtain to narrow down your list of suspects. At any time, click on the folder icon on the bottom-left to bring up your Case File. Here you can get an overview of the crime, organize the clues you have collected, and analyze the existing suspects. Once you're sure you've found the criminal, you can also issue a warrant to arrest them and move on to the next level.
Interrogation
Occasionally, you will need to gather more information about your suspects through an interrogation. Go into the Suspects section of the Case File, click on a suspect, and click on the "Interrogate” button to do this. Interrogations involve a memory puzzle – click on a blank tile to turn it over and reveal its image, click on another tile to try and match it. You have a finite amount of turns when in interrogation mode.
Tip: Evidence Bag
Remember that any tile clicked on in a Crime Scene is automatically dropped into your Evidence Bag, and cleared if you find a matching tile. Note that you have five slots available here, so if you’re in a hurry and need an important piece of evidence, don’t be afraid to clear the tiles around it by throwing them into your evidence bag first.
