Getting Started

You'll be presented with several options at the title screen. Move the mouse over one of these options and click the left mouse button to select it. Several of Marine Park Empire's options include the Tutorial (ideal for newcomers), the Scenerio mode (letting players tackle specific challenges), Free Game (the complete game, letting players build and manage a marine park), and Load Game (to restore a previously saved game).

Characters

After you begin a new game, you will need to create a character. First click the text window at the top of the screen and type in your name. Next, click either of the icons directly beneath the text window to select between Zoo Keeper and Marine Specialist. Next, click one of the gender icons to choose a male or female character. Finally, click the skills on the bottom of the screen to distribute your five skill points, and click the checkmark on the bottom right to begin.

Controls

Before you can play Marine Park Empire, you'll need to familiarize yourself with the controls. You interact with the game using the mouse. Move the mouse to guide the cursor around the screen. Move the cursor beyond the borders of the screen to scroll around and see the entire park. Hold the right mouse button, then move the mouse to change your view of the park. Finally, roll the scroll wheel on the mouse up and down to zoom in and out.

Tools

Once you can make your way around the park, it's time to make changes to it. On the bottom left of the screen, there is a toolbar filled with icons. The largest icons on the right side of the toolbar are used to purchase animals, hire assistants, and gauge your visitors' interest in the park. When you click one of these icons, a series of additional options will appear which allow you to make more specific choices.

Attractions

If you want to add an animal to your park, you would first click the animal list icon in the toolbar, then click the animal you wish to add to the park. The cursor turns into a hand which holds onto that animal until you have found a place in the park for it. Scroll around the park until you've found the ideal place for the creature, then click the left mouse button one more time to drop it.

Money

The object of Marine Park Empire is to build and maintain the ultimate marine park. This is a long and ongoing process, taking many hours of play and a great deal of virtual money. Every change you make to the park -- hiring staff members, purchasing animals, and altering the terrain -- costs money. If your supply (shown on the bottom of the screen) is exhausted and you cannot get more cash from loans, the park will eventually waste away and you will lose the game.

Tip: Building a Better Cage

Large, powerful animals like the white rhinocerous and brown bear don't let little things like fences stand in the way of freedom. For their safety and the safety of the park visitors, it's important to not only build a fence, but lower the terrain inside their enclosures. This creates a deep, wide hole which is comfortable enough for them to live inside, but impossible to escape.

Tip: Learn by Example

If you're not familiar with management simulations like this one, do yourself a favor and play through the Tutorial mode. It's a great way to learn about the game and all of its many features.
