Basics
Morning's Wrath is a fantasy adventure set in a world of magic and intrigue. An action RPG in the style of Diablo, you take the role of Princess Morning, who must purify a forgotten magic well in order to give her people the strength they need to fight off the invaders from Ashidia. The task will not be easy, though, as the well grants great power to those who seek it...often at the expense of their souls. You must guide Morning through terrifying dangers and deadly temptations to reach victory.
Combat
Princess Morning is no slouch with a blade, and she'll be called upon to fight many frightening enemies over the course of her adventure. Once you're equipped with a weapon, you can left click on any hostile foe to attack it. The bar above their head indicates their remaining hit points, while the red bar at the upper left of the screen tracks Morning's remaining health. You're often plagued by many enemies at once, so learning to fight while surrounded is an important tactic.
Magic
Morning must also learn magic -- runes and glyphs that you assemble into powerful spells. No single glyph has power; "fire," for example, doesn't do anything by itself. But combine it with the "blast" glyph and click save to create a scroll of the fire blast spell. You can combine several glyphs to create very complicated effects in this way. There are a total of 24 magical runes to collect, and you can bet that finding them won't be easy. Spells cost mana, which can be replenished with potions.
Controls
Morning's Wrath is easy to play, requiring only the mouse. After a lengthy preface and a brief introductory conversation, you're free to move Morning about by left clicking wherever you want her to go. Also click to pick up or use objects, talk to people and so forth. The I button at the lower right opens an inventory panel, the S at the lower left accesses your spellbook. The numbered boxes between are for quick items -- drop an item in a slot and type the corresponding number to activate it.
Storyline
Morning's Wrath comes complete with a surprisingly complex backstory that contains evil gods, power-mad kings, dark magics, ancient wars, families in conflict and much, much more. It's all a little overwhelming at first, but give it time and soon you'll know what's what. To purify the mana fountain, Morning must collect objects of special significance and toss them in -- but beware, because her sanity, her soul, is at risk as she does this. You might win the war and lose your mind.
Tip: Follow the Leader
People are constantly telling Morning to follow them, but the game's movement interface makes that hard to do. It helps to click on the person as soon as they walk away -- that tells Morning to take the same path they are.
Tip: Utility Belt
Healing and Mana potions, plus scrolls of useful spells you've cooked up, are what should go in your quick item slots. Combat doesn't stop when you open your inventory panel, so you can get killed if you're rooting around in your backpack for a healing potion.
Tip: Potion Cache
Mana and Life potions aren't hard to come by, but it's still nice to have a limitless supply of them close to home. There are caches of both kinds in the Tainted King's Study under Castle Iridine. Just left click and out they come, like a medieval Coke machine.
Tip: Just Hand it to Me
When people give things to Morning, they don't hand them to her -- they throw them on the ground and leave them there for you to pick up. Remember this or you'll find yourself retracing your steps a lot, because you forgot to pick up this or that.
Tip: Go Home
Early on you get to choose whether you should return to Castle Iridine and look for clues there, or go on into the unknown. As exciting as the unexplored might be, it's a lot safer to head home and improve your skills before venturing farther.
