Bosses
Just when you thought you've seen it all, an enormous boss comes along to prove you wrong! You'll find one of these especially powerful enemies at the end of each stage. The boss's life meter is shown at the bottom of the screen; assault them with punches and kicks and that meter will begin to shrink. Once it's gone, the boss will perish, and you're free to move on to the next stage, where even more bizarre foes await!
Getting Started
Press the one player start button to begin Mutation Nation, then the two player start button to invite a friend to battle by your side. After a brief introduction, you'll appear on the left side of the screen. Press the controller up, down, left, or right to walk in those directions. Tap the jump button to leap into the air, and press attack for a straight punch. When near an enemy, tap attack repeatedly to perform a mutant-mashing combo!
Powerups
As you proceed through the game, you'll find brightly colored orbs, each marked with a letter. Stand over these orbs and press the attack button, and you'll gain the ability to perform super attacks that clear the screen of mutants. After collecting an orb, hold down the attack button until the charge meter at the top of the screen is full, then release it. Each orb contains just three super attacks, so don't waste them!
Lives
You begin the game with a full life meter, shown at the top of the screen as a bar with multicolored segments. When you're attacked by enemies, segments from that bar will vanish. Once they've all disappeared, your fighter will fall, ending the game. Press either the one player or two player start buttons before the continue timer expires, and you'll resume playing Mutation Nation from the point you lost your last life.
Tip: A Mighty Wind
The tornado is the most powerful of the super attacks, wiping out all enemies with a deadly green funnel of wind. You can get this attack from the orb marked with a “D.”
Tip: Second-Rate Super Attacks
You can perform super attacks even if you haven't collected an orb. However, these more basic attacks do less damage to enemies and cost you two segments of your life bar each time they're used.
