Getting Started
Your first task is to choose which game of Operation: Flashpoint you'd like to play. On the title screen, click "Campaign". The game will open a logbook listing the missions available to you in the Resistance expansion pack. If you would rather play the original Cold War Crisis missions or the Red Hammer expansion pack, click the arrows on the left page of the logbook to switch between them.
Combat
Arm yourself using the menu -- you'll need to have a firearm in your hands to shoot it, after all. Click the left mouse button to fire. Click and hold the right mouse button to zoom in on your foe to improve your aim. To reload your weapon, press the [R] key.
Movement
The Cold War Crisis missions begin with a tutorial to familiarize you with the game's controls. Move your soldier with the directional or WASD keys. Look around with the mouse. When you are near an object that you can interact with, use your mouse wheel or the [ and ] keys to switch between options on the context-sensitive menu, then press the Enter key to execute the highlighted command.
Tip: Stealth
Enemies can't shoot what they can't see. Lie down in bushes, marked as black spots on your map, and even nearby enemies will have trouble spotting you. You'll also want to stay away from heavy-traffic areas where there are lots of roaming eyes, including roads and enemy-infested buildings, if you can help it.
Tip: Backup
While you might find yourself underequipped and struggling alone in later missions, many early missions give you ample support in the form of troops, tanks, and other heavy artillery. There's no need for you to put yourself -- one guy with an M16 -- at risk when there are tanks around, are there? Hang back and let them handle the dirty work.
